Mike
Don't forget one of my all-time favorites... Songfacts number 2907 Lyrics for: Garden Party I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends A chance to share old memories and play our songs again When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name No one recognized me, I didn't look the same CHORUS But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself People came from miles around, everyone was there Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air 'n' over in the corner, much to my surprise Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise CHORUS lott-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came No one heard the music, we didn't look the same I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave CHORUS lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah) lot-in-dah-dah-dah Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck CHORUS lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah) lot-in-dah-dah-dah 'n' it's all right now, learned my lesson well You see, ya can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself
Elvish
Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings reference themselves, Hank Williams, Jerry Jeff Walker and Mickey Newberry in "Luckenbach Texas" Let's go to Luckenbach Texas, With Waylon and Willie and the boys This successful life we're livin' Got us feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys Between Hank Williams pain songs Newberry's train songs And Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain Out in Luckenbach Texas Ain't nobody feelin' no pain Willie changes "Newberry's train songs" to "Jerry Jeff's train songs" in the last chorus. Elvish
I reminded my self of this song from Hank Williams, Jr. All my rowdy friends have settled down and seem to be more into laid back songs. Nobody wants to get drunk and get loud. Everybody just wants to go back home. I myself have seen my wilder days and I have seen my name at the top of the page, but I need to find a friend just to run around. But no one wants to get high on the town and all my rowdy friends have settled down. And I think I know what my father meant when he sang about a lost highway and old George Jones I'm glad to see he's finally getting straight, and Waylon's staying home and loving Jesse more these days, and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down. and the hang overs hurt more then they used to and corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and ninety-proof, and it seems like none of us do things quite like we used to do and nobody wants to get high on the town and all my rowdy friends have settled down. Yeah I think I know what my father meant when he sang about his lost highway and Johnny Cash don't act like he did back in '68 and Kris he is a movie star and he's moved off to L.A. and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down yeah me and my rowdy friends done rowdied on down. Crazy Don
I just thought of this now that Chris LeDoux has died. Garth Brooks' song "Much Too Young (to Feel This Damn Old)" mentions "a worn-out tape of Chris LeDoux"? Hank Williams Jr.'s song "Young Country" mentions Van Halen and ZZ Top, among others? _jr_
Molly Hatchet's "Gator Country" mentions a lot of other artists: I've been to Alabama, people ain't a whole lot to see; Skynyrd says it's a real sweet home but it ain't nothing to me. Charlie Daniels will tell you the good Lord lives in Tenessee, ha! But I'm going back to gator country where the wine and the women are free. Chorus: There's a gator in the bushes, he's calling my name, And a saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's many roads I've travelled but they all kind of look the same. There's a gator in the bushes, Lord, he calling my name. Old Richard Betts will tell ya Lord he was born a Ramblin' Man. Well he can ramble back to Georgia but I won't give a damn. Elvin Bishop out struttin his stuff with little Miss Slick Titty Boom. But I'm going back to gator country to get me some elbow room. Chorus: There's a gator in the bushes he's calling my name. And saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's many roads I've travelled but they all kinda look the same. There's a gator in the bushes, Lord, he calling my name. Yep. There's Marshall Tucker riding a rainbow searching for a pot of gold. Well they can take the highway, baby, and they can take all they can hold. The Outlaws down in Tampa town it's a mighty fine place to be. They got green grass and got high tides and sure looks good to me. Chorus: There's a gator in the bushes, he's calling my name. Saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's so many roads I've travelled but they all kinda look the same. There's a gator in the bushes , Lord, he's calling my name.
