We've all discussed the greatest bands of all time, but what about bands you really like that had brief careers or were not commercially successful? Some of my favourite obscure bands are:

Quarterflash - a lead vocalist with a great voice and some catchy tunes. I believe the band originated in Seattle. I don't think they lasted for more than a few years.

The Fabulous Poodles - A quirky English band of the late 70's and early 80's. They were one of the few rock bands in which a fiddle played a prominent part. They only released two albums, which are difficult to come by. If you want to sample their music (definitely worthwhile), a CD entitled "His Masters Choice" was recently released. An excellent compilation!

Piper - This band featured a young Billy Squier. To the best of my knowledge, they only released one album entitled "Piper". A very good album indeed.

Budgie - This English band may have released more than two albums, but I've never been able to find more than that. They played hard rock, and I think they were really quite good.

Starz - They were a hard rock group out of New York state, I believe. I've only ever been able to find one album by this group, but it is a pretty good one. :coolio:

The Marmalade - Early 70's: great vocals and harmonies, great musicianship, very competent writers and arrangers, one top 40 hit in the USA (Reflections Of My Life), one album (I still have it) and phfffft, they were gone.

The Fabulous Poodles

Reminds me of a horrendous 80's blunder called "The Fabulous Thunderbirds". They were around for '87 with Wrap It Up & Tough Enough then completely faded into oblivion. Anybody else remember these guys? Me Neither =:P

The Poodles had a famous song, I don´t remember now the name... I must have it among my promo-singles... They did some tehcno-gay-modern-pop, I believe...?

The Darling Buds were around for a couple of years in the eighties. Their album 'Said...Pop' is well worth it if you like jangly guitars and lyrics about relationships.

I used to like the Gin Blossoms. They had two albums of great melodic rock and then broke up.

They never broke up. The lead guitarist and songwriter committed suicide  They're still around and toured California lately...

I like Rialto. They only had two albums as well. I don't think they ever broke up, but it seems as if they weren't fated to become huge.

There was a northern California band that had a record out back in 1984 - the band was Duke Jupiter and the album was called "White Knuckle Ride". They had a single on the radio - "Little Lady Like You" I think was the name of it.

Good boogie rock n roll.

Nash Kato RAWKS! I think he still records, but as a solo artist.

Nash Kato still tours, but I think Blackie's locked up in a looney bin somewhere. Roeser has had a band or two since then, too. But none of them did anything huge.

"Saturation" - great album.

Hey!, The Fabulous T-Birds are still around!! They were touring in Summer of '04 when I saw them with the re-constituted Journey (whatever happened to Steve Perry after he left, anyways.. :coolio:.).

Oh No !!! I'll beware in case trouble comes to town
