eppyplayer
When I was 10, my Dad had partys and they played the dark side, zep4, Allmans eat a peach, Alice..zipper catches skin. I am 35 now and when i listened to the classic radio , Poison was on, skid row, seldom heard metallica, and ratt. Wow....Now that my son listens to Papa Roach, Saliava, and God smack; my generation has become classic. Yet i still feel zep , floyd, CCR, and others in that era are classic. What has the music industry come to? Davi Bowie said it best with Changes.. I think
Addictedtoclassic
In the Twin Cities, our classic rock station plays mostly 70's with some later 60's and a hint of early early 80's (primarily bands that came out in the 70's and kept releasing albums into the 80's). We have a separate "hard rock/heavy metal" station that plays the 80's hair bands along with all the newer stuff. In my honest opinion, classic rock occurred during a time where form, fit, and function meant absolutely nothing.

Addictedtoclassic
Absolutely! They are a huge part of the era I'm defining as "classic rock". Acid, psychadelic, and progressive rock all have a influential position in that era.

RonJonSurfer
In a recent poll on New York's classic rock station, these songs were the topp 99 voted by listeners. The list included 1043 songs: with these Top 1,043 Classic Rock Song "Fast Facts": There are two bands that each have 3 songs in the top 20 (and Led Zeppelin is not one of the bands). The Beatles have the most spots on the countdown. 21 songs ahead of the #2 band. In fact, if you add their solo work into the total, The Beatles are represented 95 times or over 9% of the entire countdown. After The Beatles, Led Zeppelin has the most (49) entries! I listen to that radio station all the time and i found it interesting that some older rock songs that are considered top ten in rock are so far down on that list. Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry isn't even in the top 100, same with some other older songs. Yet JUmp by Van Halen is in the top 100. I think classic rock is simply what the name is, old rock music, I consider anything from the early 80's, 70's and 60's classic rock.
RonJonSurfer
I miss the old concept of WABC-AM in New York. They were the powerhouse station for the 60's in NY and could be heard up and down the east coast. they played anything from Top 100 to Motown to bubble gum to rock to psychedelic.etc. Classic rock has excluded much of that particular brand of music. You never hear, say, The Supremes, hardly any Stevie Wonder, Grass Roots, Beach Boys..etc. They now fall under "Oldies" but they are classic to me. MindCrime
To me, classic rock is a standard sample of the history behind the genre. Certain songs, that are still listenable today. Most of what is considered "Classic" wasn't a chart-topper, but had a lot more staying power. Stairway to Heaven, for example, never reached #1 on the charts, while Macho Macho Man by the Village People did. Today, Stairway is still considered to be a masterpiece, while the other is a simple joke.
