10 Songs that bring tears to your eyes

Recommended Posts

Queen's "These Are The Days Of Our Lives"

always brings tears to my eyes. Maybe it's the stark sorrow of regret so eminent in the song. Maybe the hurt of love never realized. I also can't help but think of freddy Mercury singing this sad song while he was dying...never to recapture what'd been lost.

These Are The Days Of Our Lives

Sometimes I get to feelin'

I was back in the old days - long ago

When we were kids when we were young

Thing seemed so perfect - you know

The days were endless we were crazy we were young

The sun was always shinin' - we just lived for fun

Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know

The rest of my life's been just a show

Those were the days of our lives

The bad things in life were so few

Those days are all gone now but one thing is true

When I look and I find I still love you

You can't turn back the clock you can't turn back the tide

Ain't that a shame

I'd like to go back one time on a roller coaster ride

When life was just a game

No use in sitting and thinkin' on what you did

When you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids

Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know

Better sit back and go with the flow

Cos these are the days of our lives

They've flown in the swiftness of time

These days are all gone now but some things remain

When I look and I find no change

Those were the days of our lives - yeah

The bad things in life were so few

Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true

When I look and I find

I still love you

I still love you

That is a beautiful song, UJ. Here are some songs that I just have to stop whatever I'm doing to listen to:

She's Got a Way - Billy Joel

The Very Thought of You - Nat King Cole (when my husband and I had just started dating, we only saw each other on weekends, so I would play this song all week)

Tonight - Elton John

At This Moment - Billy Vera & The Beaters

A lot of Queen songs give my tear ducts a workout. The video was shot in early 1991.

With the exception of actual tears, I feel the most saddened and compassionate about some of these songs... although there are many more I would list, these correspond to my memory right now:

Songbird - Fleetwood Mac

Wild Horses - The Sundays

Vincent - Don McClain

Hearts and Bones - Paul Simon

Black Balloon - Goo Goo Dolls

Joey - Concrete Blonde

I need to meditate, reach into whatever inner depth my mind has - it's probably shallow enough to not dwell too long into this topic - and surface back up with 10 songs that sound/are sad (to me).

- "Words" by F.R. David

- "Don't Answer Me" by The Alan Parsons Project

- "Tears Of A Clown" by Smokey Robinson

- "A Question Of Lust (minimal)" by Depeche Mode (the whole Black Celebration album, really)

- "Ghosts" by Japan (a few songs from Tin Drum have some fantastic lyrics and instrumentation)

- "In A Manner Of Speaking" by Tuxedomoon

- "Halah" by Mazzy Star

- "Only You" by Yazoo

- "El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes" by Jeanette

- "Un Velero Llamado Libertad" by Jose Luis Perales

Only one song comes to mind, Yesterday by Boyz II Men.

Story: My brother was in the ICU with leukemia (had been for a couple weeks) and before leaving for work, I put the Boyz II Men (his fav at the time) album on for him to listen to via his Walkman. When I got to work I got a call from a family member that I should come back down to the hospital because my brother had taken "a turn for the worse." When I got there he was gone. I still can't listen to that album, specifically that song, to this day. :(

Whatever happened to some of the people who posted in this thread?

I don't know, but if that Honeybrown was using an actual photo of herself for an avatar - I wanted to get to know her better ! I'd even listen to " The Rose " with a goofy , yet polite grin on my face ! ;):)
