I love very much the Carpenters and neil Diamond covers of many songs...

Edna....I believe the Carpenters version of Mr. Postman was pretty good.

On the other hand, about a year ago my girlfriend bought a Neil Diamond album where he covered all of the songs. The name of the album is Up On The Roof - Songs From The Brill Building. When I heard the album on a long drive back from the Connecticut casinos I felt as if I was being tortured. This was by far the worst collection of covered songs I had ever heard. I just skipped track after track on the CD wondering if there was a good song on there....there wasn't. If you have ever heard this album I think you would agree with me.

Oh, I never heard this album... I must say that I talk about "He ain´t heavy, he´s my brother", "Mr Bojangles" and a couple of other songs I have on a "Best of"... I really like that album, but thanks for the warning, I´ll avoid that record you mention!

Yes, "Please Mr Postman" by the Carpenters has a solo guitar and arrangements that make it sound great... I always thought the best cover was the Beatles one... I still do!

My three favorite remakes?

Baby It's You--The Shirelles/Smith (late 1960's band fronted by Gayle McCormick)

When Will I Be Loved--Everly Brothers/Linda Ronstadt

You Better Run--The Young Rascals/Pat Benatar

Of course the three remakes are far better than the originals?

Geez, I almost forgot Pin-Ups, Bowies covers of his favorites from the 60's including, See Emily Play, Shapes of Things, Where Have All The Good Times Gone, Friday On My Mind and more. I love this album, Where Have All The Good Times Gone is my favorite. Bowie also covers Let's Spend The Night Together on Aladdin Sane, Across The Universe on Young Americans and It Ain't Wasy on Ziggy Stardust.

I hope one of those fits into your format. Let us know what you end up playing.

OK, was just thinking about all the songs that I didn't care for at one time, but once they were remade they were likeable/lovable/or just awesome. Most remakes suck, but there are exceptions. And of course, this is an opinion question, so please respect each others remarks, because some may have liked the original better. I know there's more, but the ones that come to mind are

REMs "The End of the World as We Know It :P Redone by The Suicide Machines (Nothingew also made a pretty good remake) It's important to know that I am not a fan of REM.

Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" redone by NOFX (OK, maybe it's not better, but it is much more entertaining...."if I could I'd give you my socks!"

Gloria Gaynor's classic "I Will Survive"-- Cake

Michael Jackson's "Smooth Crimal"--Alien Ant Farm

Got More? :happybanana:

Don't sweat it, stocky. Hunt around in the "Search" page. You'll find all kinds of stuff in there. Jump in on any conversations you want. Everyone is welcome here.

Well, except RogerWaters90125. He just won't go away. Like gum stuck in the tread of your shoe. Or dog poop.
