Elvish
Thanks again, everyone. Cosmo, I found a really handy download on that snapfiles website - it's called TuneUp Utilities 2004. It's shareware, but there's a free trial period. It's found and deleted a bunch of crap that was left over from before I reinstalled my operating system. Seems like it's speeded things up quite a bit. Carole - I'll keep you website in mind. I was ready to throw my hands up and get professional help before I found this program. Thanks again! ::

RonJonSurfer
One more simple thing that can't hurt anything. Go to Tools, then internet options, click "delete cookies" then "delete files" then "clear history". It has worked for me in the past.
cosmosis
So my question is: How fast is your internet connection according to your ISP, and how fast are your downloads now?
Elvish
Ugh - it's slowed back down again. I'm running slower than dial up at this point. The cnet.com website shows it at 20.4 kbps and it should be at least 384. ::
cosmosis
So I assume your internet connection is advertised as 384 kbps? Which is kilobits. Browsers show the download speed as kilobytes. 1 kB = 8 kb, so 384/8=48kB. So your downloads from web-sites should go @ about 48k. Unless I assumed wrong Anyways I found this great tweak at some other site. Of course, you need Firefox. Pages load instantly, plus FF is the best browser out there. Here it is: "Hey all, want your FireFox browser to be exceptionally fast.....follow these simple steps LOAD PAGES AT THE SPEED OF SOUND (DSL / BROADBAND + FIREFOX BROWSER) You will have to switch from Internet Explorer, to FIREFOX (CLICK HERE). Trust us, if you have DSL, or Broadband, this is the most amazing tweak you can find. Your browser will load the site so much faster, that you will never use Internet Explorer again! - Download and install Firefox (click here). You can import all your bookmarks, and passwords easily, with a simple wizard. - Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. - Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. - Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT, you've never seen a browser load this fast. Works exceptionally well on torrentbytes as the site runs quite slow at times" Of course that would mean that a single user would cause the load of 30 users on a server, so too many ppl doing this would probably crash the server. Anywhoo, you can find Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/

Addictedtoclassic
It did snow a little yesterday edna (or Helena?). But you need to really crank up the dancing tunes and just explode that snow onto Minnesota. My state is very pathetic in the winter without any snow.
