Zeppelin_TheBest Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 In your opinion what is the greatest bass solo in rock history?
MarcM Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 John Entwhistle has always been my favorite bassist. The bass solo in "My Generation" always pops to mind first when asked about great bass solos...
Danielj Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 I love the one in Lithium by Krist Novoselic of Nirvana.

The bass solo in "My Generation" always pops to mind first when asked about great bass solos... I'll agree, for the most part, but 'The Real Me' is far more aggresive, even though there's no actual 'bass solo', per se, the entire song is John's finest, IMO. Pure Rock and Roll.
Mairi Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Ok, you were all expecting me to say this so i will...Flea from the chilis bassline in Around the World. it's mind boggling.
Aunt_Acid Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 I'll agree, for the most part, but 'The Real Me' is far more aggresive, even though there's no actual 'bass solo', per se, the entire song is John's finest, IMO. Pure Rock and Roll. Who's John Entwhistle?
MarcM Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I'll agree, for the most part, but 'The Real Me' is far more aggresive, even though there's no actual 'bass solo', per se, the entire song is John's finest, IMO. Pure Rock and Roll. I was going to put "The Real Me" down as my favorite solo, but then I thought that there was really no solo. Pete put it best when he said John played "lead bass." "The Real Me" is one of my favorite songs on my all time favorite Who album, Quadrophenia.
The Seeker Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Who would I be, not agreeing to John Entwistle (Entwistle, man! Not whistle! ) being the best bassist ever? And I somehow always liked the bass in Louie Louie, but I suppose it's no solo.
edna Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 There´s one bass line in a Pink Floyd song I just can´t remember the title... It must be in "Ummagumma", as that´s the record I lost many years ago and I never heard again... maybe Daniel will know... I could sing it to you, but... The song begins with an amazing bass solo... then it gets psychedelich... maybe someone can find out for me...?
fidelityfiend Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 As far as an actual bass solo - how about "Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth" by Cliff Burton on Metallica's "Kill'Em All".........
RonJonSurfer Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Beatles- Think For Yourself - Paul on fuzz bass.

Or Set The Controls, but you know that one. A lot of early Pink Floyd had some of the coolest basslines.
CaptainMikeRS Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 The tapping bass solo in Dream Theater's Metropolis Pt 1 is a good one, and the Rush song Scars off of Presto is nothing but bass with light drums playing a funk/jungle beat, and light guitar in the end.
kellie rockin in the free world Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Any solo by John Paul Jones ! :happybanana:
_Jayson_ Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 That live Les Claypool solo that I still don't know the name to.

MarcM Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Geddy Lee's bass line in YYZ is pretty kick a$$ too...
