"1959" ~ The Sisters Of Mercy

This song is named after the year of Andrew Eldritch's birth, and is a melancholy ballad inspired by the handwriting of a girl called Isabelle who wrote to him and suggested he did a song just using his voice and a piano. It is devoid of irony, unlike many of their songs, and reflects Eldritch's own sense of innocent existence.

Mothers Of The Disappeared - U2

Midnight, our sons and daughters

Were cut down and taken from us

Hear their heartbeat...

We hear their heartbeat

In the wind

We hear their laughter

In the rain

We see their tears

Hear their heartbeat...

We hear their heartbeat

Night hangs like a prisoner

Stretched over black and blue

Hear their heartbeat...

We hear their heartbeat

In the trees

Our sons stand naked

Through the walls

Our daughters cry

See their tears in the rainfall

For me, it would be Elvis, performing Hank Williams Sr.'s "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", on his "Aloha From Hawaii" DVD. Presley gets to the lyric "Did you ever see, a robin weep, when leaves begin to die, that mean's he's lost his will, to live I'm so lonesome, I could cry". Immediately after singing this, Presley gives a small sad knowing grin and a visible shudder, then plows right back into the song. Showing us, the viewer a HUGE inside yet, split-second view into his life. "Yeah, you all love me, but this life is horrid. I am surrounded by 'friends' and I am as lonesome as hell and would trade places with any of you in an instant. Enjoy the show, there won't be many more." See the performance I am talking about and see if I am wrong.

Ken.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these broken wings and learn to fly

All your life

You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these sunken eyes and learn to see

All your life

You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly

Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly

Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these broken wings and learn to fly

All your life

You were only waiting for this moment to arise

You were only waiting for this moment to arise

You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

and there's a sad story to go with it, too. The girls called apple scruffs, who were fans of beatles, were outside paul's house, and paul just opened the window, sat on the edge and started playing. very sweet.
