One song that always gets to me is Patches by Clarence Carter.

Others I would consider are:

Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks

Living For The City - Stevie Wonder

Candle In The Wind - Elton John

Woodstock---well, who actually? Who sings this version that they always play on the radio? Matthew's Southern Comfort?

I know the Joni Mitchell and the CSN&Y versions...

oh duh the saddest non-love song of them all

Wish you Were Here-Pink Floyd

You know, I never found Wish You Were Here to be that sad. Probably the saddest of all Floyd songs is Hey You. Mother being a close second.

Another sad Springsteen song is Lost In The Flood.

And I said hey kid you think that's oil?

Man, that's not oil that's blood.

I wonder what he was thinkin when he hit that storm

Or was he just lost in the flood

The saddest song, I would have to say is "He's My Son" by Mark Schultz. It's written from a dad's perspective about his son that gets cancer or something to that effect and how he watches his son and his family deal with it. Very sad song but very good, and it's based on a true story.
