Danielj Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 I have read The Beatles Biograohy, The Rolling Stones Biography, No One Here Gets Out Alive (Jim Morrison) and Im about to read Heavier Than Heaven (Kurt Cobain). What are some other good Biography's of Musicians or bands out there?
bluesboy Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Bob Marley - Catch a Fire - Timothy White Mystery Train: Images of America in Rock 'n' Roll Music - Greil Marcus
_jr_ Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 I read Aerosmith's. When Perry quit, the drugs were running his life completely. They all had their demons, of course.
Danielj Posted December 12, 2004 Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 I almost bought a Bob Marley one, but......... I was young and inexperienced in the MArleyness world of rockon.
MarcM Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 "Full Moon" is a pretty good book about Keith Moon. Sadly, I do not remember who wrote it...
Tybalt Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 X-Ray is the "unauthorized autobiograhy" of Ray Davies of the Kinks. It's written in an unusual way. Ray relates true stories and some fabrications to a fictional interviewer. Davies is a fantastic storyteller.
edna Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Marianne Faithfull wrote her own biography... though it might not be so interesting as it seems, (she´s not always telling the truth, said a couple of Rolling Stones...) I´ve been told that she tells many stories about the rock scene and the book is very good (I didn´t read it...)
stocky Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 the Bon Scott bio "Highway to hell" is a good tead
Elvish Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 George Harrison's autobiography I, Me, Mine is good, but the vast majority of the book is filled with lyrics and pictures. What George did actually write is great. Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and Times of Janis Joplin by Alice Echols is wonderful, but I also enjoyed Love, Janis, which was written by her sister Laura Joplin. Willie Nelson's Willie written with Bud Shrake, is very interesting and colorful. Willie's reflections are interspersed with the recollections of friends and family - even an ex-wife! It's an autobiography like none I've ever read.
RonJonSurfer Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Beyond The Great Divide - Bio about The Band Neil and Me by Scott Young (author and Neil's Dad).
Aunt_Acid Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 For Love or Country- Arturo Sandoval We watched it today in band. We had played a song he wrote in jazz band, but man, he is a great trumpet player. I went to his site after I saw that movie. It's a really good movie.
nobody_home Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Richie Unterberger, you might have read his reviews on All Music Guide, wrote Unknown Legends of Rock'n'Roll. The book comes with a CD and contains pictures and album reviews. There's even a chapter on your avatar. Other books are at his website.
Tenacious_Peaches Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I read David Crosby's autobiography. Makes you wonder how that man is still alive. And it also makes you wonder why Melissa Etheridge thought that his sperm was the best choice to use to father her child.
The Seeker Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 The Beatles--Anthology (it costs a fortune, or at least it did when I bought it) Keith Moon--Dear Boy by Tony Fletcher, an awesome book. The American issue is called Moon-Life and Death of A Rock Legend.
Elvish Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 The Beatles--Anthology (it costs a fortune, or at least it did when I bought it). How could I forget this one - it's huge; by far the largest book I own. And I know what you mean about the cost - but it's been out in paperback for a few years now.
edna Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 And it´s got pretty much info about the Beatles... only it´s been supervised by Paul McCartney, and that gives his special point of view. I have the big one, my husband couldn´t wait for paperback to buy it for me.
Elvish Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 I have the big one, my husband couldn´t wait for paperback to buy it for me. Mine too - aren't they sweet? We should really give them more than socks and underwear for Christmas, huh?
edna Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Mine too - aren't they sweet? We should really give them more than socks and underwear for Christmas, huh? Absolutely agree with you, Elvish! socks and underwear is what they NEED, not what they WANT!!!
