A Birthday Poem

Okay, I can't help myself. I have a lot of things I've written and would like general comments. Or, at least get other people to read them.

I wrote this one for my father on his 50th birthday.

You?ve reached the half-century point in your life

But your mind is still cunning, and sharp like a knife

Your parenting skills have refined through the years

Regardless of joy, anger, or tears

You have become a man of great esteem

I look up to you, and hope that I will be

You?ve taught many lessons to your children you see

We?ve learned right and wrong, and where they can lead

I feel your influence everywhere I go

I pass this on to my own child as he grows

Grows and gains a knowledge in life

I hope my decisions, come out just right

For you are my mentor, my teacher, and the one

I look up to, when things are going wrong

You stretch out your hand and grab a hold

And pull my head, out of the cold

The waters of life that I try to cross

Before I drown, die, or get lost

A savior of God from the heavens above

You grab my hand, and remind me that love

Is a powerful weapon that when used just right

Will fight away the terror, that comes out at night

You?ve always made sure to keep me afloat

You?ve always made sure, to give me much hope

That life will get better as long as I try

And wipe the tears, as they fall from my eye

Now I realize that the words you have said

Will save me each day, that I get out of bed

So here is my thanks that I?m writing to you

And hope you continue, to do what you do

It?s a daily new start as you walk out the door

Happy fiftieth Father, here?s to fifty more
