Why do Japanese publicists use English titles for Chinese movies?

Here's a flying leap across the language barrier. How does a Chinese movie, titled "House Full of Jade and Gold" become "Half Full of Testicles" to a Japanese reading the Chinese characters? "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was a literal translation, but to the Japanese, the title is/was stramge...
