1971 - Theme From Shaft by one hit wonder Isaac Hayes tops the US charts.

Isaac Hayes was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hayes first arrived on the 60's scene in Memphis as the keyboardist for the Mar-Keys, the Stax Records ensemble, where he can be heard on recordings for Otis Redding and William Bell. There, Hayes teamed up with David Porter writing and producing for Sam & Dave ( Hold On, I'm Comin', Soul Man, When Something Is Wrong With My Baby ). Functioning as house composers for Stax, they penned material for other acts on the roster, such as Carla Thomas (B-A-B-Y) and Johnnie Taylor (I Got to Love Somebody's Baby, I Had a Dream).

Hayes voices the South Park character Chef, known for serving up impromptu sexy ballads and dishing out pearls of wisdom.

But his career?s most notable achievement remains, as he sums it up: ?Shaft. Damn right.?
