ambrosejones Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I'm compiling songs for a Christmas cd. I have the typical Mariah Carey, She Daisy stuff, but looking for other songs that you might like, but I'm not aware of. Searching for these on Google or any place else just gives me oodles and oodles of different songs, and not many answers that I'm looking for. So just let me know what your favorite songs are, old or preferably new, and I'll check them out. Thanks and have a great holiday season!
SoulGirl Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 i'm not sure if it'll fit in with your selection the the all-time classic christmas song for me is 'fairytale of new york' by the pogues with kirsty mccoll
nobody_home Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 If I was making a Christmas CD, I'd have Father Christmas - The Kinks, although it's a far cry from Mariah Carey.
_jr_ Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas ~ Judy Garland Silver Bells ~ Bing Crosby Chesnuts Roasting on an Open Fire ~ Nat King Cole Sorry, I only know old Christmas songs. Heck, who am I kidding..I only know old songs, period.
Earth-Angel Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Santa baby - Eartha Kitt Sleigh ride - Ella Fitzgerald It must have been old santa - Harry Connick Jr. Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms Little Saint Nick - The Beach Boys Winter Wonderland - Leon Redbone Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley Santa Claus is coming to town - Eddy Arnold Baby it's Cold Outside - Leon Redbone/Zoey Deschanel Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Frank Sinatra Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow - Lena Horne Baby, It's Cold Outside - Dean Martin Whatever you do - for the sake of everyone there, do NOT include anything by Boney M on that CD! :: Here's a link of every possible Christmas compilation - sure you'll find quite a few songs there
Kevin Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 One of my favorites for not being over-played and a little unusual too is " The Little Drummer Boy" - duet by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. It's from one of Crosby's Cristmas specials that aired ~ ' 73. There 's a little chatter (on most recordings) before the song that you may or may not want to keep, but a lovely tune. Also, if you can get any Elvis Christmas stuff, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Again, if your like me ,a big plus is because it isn't heard as often on shopping mall/ etc. muzaks-- which can get a little grating by the time the season winds up ! ::
edna Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 "Happy X´mas (war is over)" John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band.
Elvish Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 "Happy X´mas (war is over)" John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. :: Other than "The Grinch" theme, this is probably my favorite Christmas song ever.
Eggplant Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by U2
br549ky Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Run Run Rudalph~Chuck Berry Little St. Nick~Beach Boys Come Home For Christmas~ Eagles
Jenny Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 I've always loved "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree" by Ronnie Spector, but that's an old one. A newer one that I like is by Jon Bon Jovi, I think it's called "Please Come Home for Christmas"
TenYearsGone Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 My alltime "rock" XMAS song is "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Some others worth checking out: Christmas Eve in Srajevo - Transiberian Orchestra The Jethro Tull Christams Album came out last year and is very good. Anything on the Alligator Records Christmas Collection, especially Koko Taylor's "Merry Merry Christmas" - for some bluesy Christmas tunes.

SoulGirl Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 i used to do panto when i was younger and one year we did a christmas song medley which was rocking around the christmas tree, jingle bell rock, and then an instrumental of sleigh ride. we had these gorgeous short red dresses with white fluff trim on the hem and cuffs and pillbox hats with curled hair. i can still remember the choreography - happy days... i also love santa baby, played it at a christmas gig once and now i'm made sing it at every christmas party! great song! peaches your christmas selection rocks, i love adam sandler and jack black!
Elvish Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I love Ray Stevens' version of "Santa Clause is Watching You." I think he does two similar versions of the song with slightly different lyrics, one more for kids and one not. Anyway this one is the one I prefer. I'm really tempted to drive down to Branson to see his Christmas show, but I know I would never be able to convince anyone to go with me! ::
CaptainMikeRS Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I Believe in Father Christmas by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Charlie Clown Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 ThePogues' Fairytale Of New York has already been mentioned but as it is by far the greatest Christmas pop song ever written it needs to be mentioned again. Another one of my faves is Otis Reddings take on White Christmas. A little known classic vesion.

MindCrime Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Some others worth checking out: Christmas Eve in Sarajevo - Transiberian Orchestra I'm interested in seeing this concert, it appears to be very well maintained & enlightening & looks promising. TYG, I notice your also from "the Valley" ; when I checked the tour dates, I noticed the greater Phoenix Metro was omitted There must be some reason for this ?
guitarshredder Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 must have 'so this is christmas' by john lennon also try 'do they know its christmas' by band aid, 'christmas time' by bryan adams, and 'emanual' by amanda marshal
