Scarred scarlet sunset
Purpled November sky
Single goodbye teardrop
In agreement with my sigh
Livin’s rough out here
When year’s near done
Mighty tough out here
Worse without you, Hon

I tried to make you like it
Built a maple rack for spice
Never cared much ‘bout curtains
But them you sewed was nice
Bought you a pawned guitar
You didn’t care if second-hand
Said since you was a social gal
Pined to play up in a band

Because you liked to wander

We tramped them summer streams

Just holding your fine hand

Was something from a dream

Never noticed beauty

In how a fence line bends

Until you snapped that picture

Hoped seein’d never end

Been a year tomorrow
You loaded up your car
No space for everything

Evenings stare at that guitar
If you maybe need it
The door is still unlocked
I could go bag seed
If ever you should stop

Don’t blame you for leaving
Blame black jets of snowy winter
Hardest on you and me, girl
I heard your music splinter
Living here’s damn foolish

Guess that’s why I’m at home
A fool like me was meant
To be dirt quiet and alone
