Musical Families

Recommended Posts

The "Separated at birth" thread got me thinking. What musicians (dead or alive) are related? Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

Ronnie VanZant: Lynyrd Skynyrd

Johnny VanZant: Lynyrd Skynyrd

Donnie VanZant: .38 Special

Bob Dylan

Jacob Dylan: The Wallflowers

John Lennon

Julian Lennon

Duane Allman: Allman Brothers

Gregg Allman: Allman Brothers

Do you know anyone else?

Dire Straits

The Bee Gees

Stone Temple Pilots

Good Charlotte

Cowboy Junkies (I think)

The Cowsills

Somebody mentioned Malcolm and Angus...and also brother/producer George played with the Easybeats in the 60's.

The Medlockes - Ricky from Blackfoot/Skynyrd and his father (whose name escapes me at the moment)

And I'm sure there are thousand more, but they just aren't coming to me right now. Carry on.

The Dixie Chick on the right is kinda cute. It's just that hog in the middle that I don't care for.

Here's a few more families:

Sly and the Family Stone

The Isley Brothers

The Neville Brothers

The Bangles

The Blues Brothers

I guess Fleetwood Mac or Talking Heads wouldn't count, huh?

New Kids on the Block (take that, Jr.)

Split Enz (now performing as the Finn Brothers)

Wilson Phillips

Families: Osmonds, Partridge, Jacksons, Carpenters, Oasis, Everly Bros, John and Edgar Winter, Beach Boys, The Corrs, Inmaculate Fools, Spandau Ballet... ouf...

How about a bunch of bands containing siblings all named "Wilson"?

The Beach Boys (though sadly only one is still alive)

Wilson-Phillips (daughters of Brian Wilson)

The Gap Band (popular R&B group - Robert, Charles, Ronnie Wilson)

Mandrill (popular R&B group of the 70's - Rick, Carlos, Louis Wilson)

Sorry if I seem to be hogging this one but if you want musical families you really can't get better than the Bach family. Johann Sebastian Bach is the famous one we all know and love but the Bach family produced dozens of musicians between the 16th and 18th centuries who were all equally famous in their day. Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach and Johann Christian Bach are just two that spring to mind. OK, OK, I know it's not pop music but those guys provided the foundation for what music is today. :beatnik:
