Lyla
I am trying to find suitable songs for my wedding - ones that don't make you throw up. I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but if any one knows some good songs - and their meanings also - i would appreciate feedback. Carl
First of all, make it very clear to your DJ that he/she will not, under any circumstances, play "Paradise By The Dashboard Light," "The Chicken Dance," or anything by The Village People, especially "YMCA." Here are some songs that I feel express genuine sentiment and can make great wedding songs: "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke "At Last" by Etta James "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" by Rod Stewart "Sweetest Thing" by U2 - especially if you have brown eyes and his are blue "Two Hearts" by Bruce Springsteen "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers I applaud your effort to take control of the music at your wedding. It's amazing how many people don't and end up listening to way too many selections from Rick Springfield's Working Class Dog album.
Guest
Great ideas Carl! How about the following: Sachmo (Louis B. Armstrong), "What a Wonderfull World". The Fifth Dimension, "Up, Up and away in my beautiful balloon (title not absolutely clear)! LOL: Lynn Anderson, "I never promised you a rose garden"! (Just jokeing on this one). This is a bit of a reach, but immaginative depending on the wedding type and atmoshphere your going for: "Wooden Ships", Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Oh don't be to quick to judge, because I had a revelation!! If you're more festive and party prone, try "Into the Mystic", by Van Morrison. Check it! "We were born before the wind, all so younger than the sun, and the bonny boat was one, as we sailed into the mystic, heart now here the sailors cry, smell the sea and feel the sky, let your soul and spirits fly into the mystic, and where that four corn blows, I will be coming home, and when the four corn blows I want to hit your aim, I don't have to fear and I want to rock your gypsy soul just like way back in the days of old, ... "I lost It", Kenny Chesney. If your a bit more hip country style; "Fall in love", Kenny Chesney. Bread, and the following choices: "If" "Baby I'm-want you" "Everything I own" My wife and I named our first female child after this one because it is so beautiful: "Aubrey"!. "Sweet Surrender" (on a lighter note, and more upbeat, and somewhat a comedy). "Lost without your love" If you want something more upbeat, chek it out (Hukt on Fonix, and werks fer me): "I can't tell you why", by the Eagles. The following from Art Garfunkel: (don't immediately exclude them! Listen and learn): "I believe (When I fall in Love)", from his "Breakaway" album. As well as the following: "I only have eyes for you" If your trully 60's hip you might try "A whiter shade of pale', by Procol Harem. If your into a bit of Carly Simon, check these out: "That's the way I always heard it should be" Sounds like a wedding song that spells it all out: "The right thing to do" "Anticipation" (Not all the lyrics coincide with great wedding plans, but the song comes around to a wedding song). Thanks, Chaff. Wish you the best!!!

Mandee
Chaff those were some great wedding song suggestions but the Van Morrison lyrics were a bit off. One line is when the fog horn blows, later he says when that fog horn whistle blows, another is Hark, now hear the sailors cry. Sorry but i hate it when i go through life and realize the lyrics were wrong but i was singin them that way anyway i do it all the time. BTW if it happens to you to go to www.kissthisguy.com its an awesome website with all of the most misquoted song lyrics. Oh and some good wedding songs: Young at heart and All the way by Frank Sinatra (Celine Dion does a cover of all the way if youre not a frank fan but who isnt a frank fan?) Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley Nothing compares 2 U by sinead O'connor For a little pep, Lets do it by joan jett and paul westerburg or I want you to want me by cheap trick some to slow dance to and even some to jam to yay fun wedding songs for all

Ken
"Perhaps Love"- John Denver w/ Placido Domingo. Perhaps love is like a resting place, a shelter from the storm It exists to give you comfort, it is there to keep you warm And in those times of trouble when you are most alone The memory of love will bring you home Perhaps love is like a window, perhaps an open door It invites you to come closer, it wants to show you more And even if you lose yourself and don't know what to do The memory of love will see you through Love to some is like a cloud, to some as strong as steel For some a way of living, for some a way to feel And some say love is holding on and some say letting go And some say love is everything, and some say they don't know Perhaps love is like the ocean, full of conflict, full of pain Like a fire when it's cold outside, thunder when it rains If I should live forever, and all my dreams come true My memories of love will be of you Some say love is holding on and some say letting go Some say ove is everything and some say they don't know Perhaps love is like the mountains, full og conflict, full of change Like a fire when it's cold outside, thunder when it rains If I should live forever, and all my dreams come true My memories of love will be of you Ken. Peter Pan
Here's one for all the music experts out there. If a bride and groom's first dance together at their wedding reception is to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, what would be a complimentary song for the best man and matron of honor to dance to? The best man and matron of honor are the bride and groom's bestfriends. The bride has asked me but I have no suggestions. She has insisted nothing sappy or overly traditional but a ballad with a friendship meaning. Their music tastes range from Norah Jones to Slipknot and everything in between. Any ideas? jippers
I've heard a lot of people have used "Outbreak Of Love" by Midnight Oil. I personally didn't have dancing at my wedding reception simply because it would have been too difficult for the women to dance in high heels on the back lawn at my wife's grandmother's and it was also a bit hard to drag the guests away from looking at the view of the entrance to Sydney Harbour anyway. Rebecca20664
Im not sure that it would be a good sing to dance to but have you hear Rhett Miller-The Question? Its a great song about getting engaged and its a perfect song for a wedding
Brian
Holy CAH RAP, I swear it was a lot easier to find songs NOT to play at a wedding rather than come up with some suggestions for you. OK, here is my list, but keep in mind some of these may not fit 100% they are just songs I am going to throw out there to give you some ideas. The list: Songs about Friendship: You?re my Best Friend ? Queen (My best suggestion in this category.) Thank You ? Dido With a Little Help From my Friends ? The Beatles Kind and Generous ? Natalie Merchant Other songs to consider: Dance the Night Away, or Dreams by Van Halen I Hope You Dance ? Lee Ann Womack (AN AMAZING SONG BTW!!) Here?s to the Night ? Eve 6 Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) ? Green Day (don?t let the title fool you) Just for laughs, here is the list of songs NOT to play at a wedding: Highway to Hell ? AC/DC I Don?t Believe in Love ? Queensryche :: Can?t Get No Satisfaction ? Rolling Stones :: Right Next Door to Hell ? Guns n Roses Hope this helps. Jimmy1104
Wedding Songs I would consider are: Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel Always and Forever - Heatwave One In A Million You - Larry Graham (I Karaoke'd this song at my wedding) For All We Know - The Carpenters In My Life - The Beatles There are so many others, but those are the top 5 I would go with. Good Luck on your wedding! PS - There are quite a few pre-wedding songs that can be played the night before during your rehearsal. Hey Paula Chapel of Love We're Going to the Chapel ........I think you get the idea....again....GOOD LUCK!!
capeesh3
One of the best songs ever: 'Come Rain or Come Shine' sung by Ray Charles. It was my wedding song 12 years ago and I still get chills when I hear it. Please give it a try. I know you won't be sorry.
MarcM
This was my wife and mine's first dance. Little Trip to Heaven (On the Wings of your Love) By Tom Waits Lazy trip to heaven on the wings of your love Banana moon is shining in the sky, Feel like I'm in heaven when you're with me Know that I'm in heaven when you smile, Though we're stuck here on the ground, I got something that I've found And it's you. And I don't have to take no trip to outer space All I have to do is look at your face, And before I know it, I'm in orbit around you Thanking my lucky stars that I've found you, When I see your constellation, honey, you're my inspiration, and it's you. You're my north star when I'm lost and feeling blue, The sun is breaking through the clouds don't you, don't you know it's true? Honey, all the other stars seem dim around you Thanking my lucky stars that I've found you, When I see your smiling face, honey, I know nothing ever going to take your place, and it's you. And it's you, and it's you, and it's you, and it's you, and it's you And it's you, and it's you, shoo-be-doo, ba-da-da.
Carl
Welcome aboard Marc. I'm learning that Tom Waits writes some intensely romantic songs. From what I read, his wife is his collaborator in work and in life. She helps him write songs and means the world to him. I guess they live in a rural town somewhere, where Tom is often recruited to help out on school field trips and stuff - he's known as a guy who's always around because he doensn't have a real job. Tenacious_Peaches
My mother-in-law helped plan my wedding, and was in charge of the person that sang during the ceremony. That was the least of my worries, so I gave her carte blanche to pick the songs. In the middle of the ceremony, the woman starts singing, and I hear my maid of honor quietly giggling behind me. She told me later that when she heard the song "Through the Eyes of Love", all she could think of was that it was the theme song to "Ice Castles", the stupid Robby Benson movie about a blind ice skater. It's a pretty song, but I still cannot listen to it without chuckling! Please, don't let this feeling end It's everything I am Everything I want to be I can see what's mine now Finding out what's true Since I found you Looking through the eyes of love Now, I can take the time I can see my life As it comes up shining now Reaching out to touch you I can feel so much Since I found you Looking through the eyes of love And now, I do believe That even in a storm we'll find some light Knowing you're beside me, I'm all right Please, don't let this feeling end It might not come again And I want to remember How it feels to touch you How I feel so much Since I found you Looking through the eyes of love
cindy17838
U2's version of "Night and Day" Night and Day You are the one Only you beneath the moon And under the sun Whether near to me or far No matter baby where you are I think of you Night and Day How romantic is that? It would have to be recorded. No offense to Adam Sandler but I don't think a typical Wedding Singer could reproduce the quality of U2's version. Also no offense to Cole Porter who wrote the song or Sinatra who made it popular. I just think U2's version is the best one. I love Sinatra by the way. Until the Palms opened I always stayed at the Sands in Vegas partly in tribute to him and the other Rat Pack members.
Tenacious_Peaches
Lyla, BTW congratulations! :: Have someone take lots of pictures, not just of the ceremony, but everything leading up to it. I know I was so excited and stressed and happy and freaked out that I swear I don't remember anything that happened! I look at the pictures and it's like looking at another person's wedding. I wish you lots of love and happiness...true love is very hard to find, so be appreciative when you find it! I have just realized that Lyla started this thread back in March, so she is probably married by now. Duh...
