Maybe so, but I hated The Beatles, and Lennons is a dirty commie bastard.

lennon gets my vote but paul gets a special mention for wonderful christmas time - *ahem*

have always been quite fond of george actually despite enjoying weird al yankovic's 'this song is just six words long' send-up

i quote john lennon, "i don't believe in 'ism's' i only believe in me"

that would mean that he's not a communist, he's a musical genius.

No, that would make him a believer in Egoism. I quote the egotistical bastard:

We're bigger than Hey-sus...

John Lennon was violent, impulsive and also very snob, he loved to "épater le bourgeois", like they say in french. Yet he was aware of all his bad habits and was always fighting within himself and against himself to be a right guy. I think his good side is so huge that we can forget that he was maybe a commie for a while, a commie living in the Dakota and riding in limousines... (or so he said when it was trendy to be so), or even a supporter of the Black panthers and other things like that. And he was a genius. And thank you, John Lennon, you were my english teacher! You´ve sweetened my early days!!!!.

This "John Lennon is a commie" thing in this thread is based on what facts?

I have to believe by the words he wrote that he wouldn't adapt well to communism. Communism can be an oppresive ideology of government when done in the way the old Russia ran their government. That would put a limit on freedoms that we enjoy here in the United States. Lennon was a freedom and peace guy. I do not believe his thoughts would have been allowed to be expressed in Russia. Also, I have never read that Lennon was ever involved with any communist or socialistic groups or regimes.

As for his comments on the Beatles being bigger than Jesus, when he made that statement it was quickly taken out of context. He was not putting himself and the band above Jesus as far as religious reverence is concerned. When he made that comment he meant that more kids are listening to the Beatles than reading their bibles or going to Sunday school, etc. I do agree though it was an egoistic statement.

John Lennon wasn´t a commie. He was supporting the black panthers in the first seventies while he made meetings for peace... he was contradictory, that´s part of his genius. He had trouble with the Nixon administration due to his political statements and they wouldn´t give him the Green Card, pretending he had had some drug problems (law problems) in the UK. That´s all. He never was a commie, he was John Lennon, take it or leave it. I take him!!
