By the way, forgive my having forgotten you in the Awards, I realised after having read the post already posted...You were among my Best poster... Tenacious_Peaches
I'm sorry that I can't help you, but I'll bet a wooden nickel that either BluesBoy or Bazooka knows...they are the resident "smarties" on the boards... ::
bluesboy
Here's a starting point.
miamisammy29
Excellent, JR. That one totally ruled!! But I think the exact title of the second song is "Bang Stick On Log".
Mike
Well here is a start - Vintage 78 sleeves I think this is a facinating question! To think that originally the "sleeve" was devised to simply protect the record "platter" from damage, shortly became a huge source of artistic originality!! Very cool! _jr_
In all seriousness, it is an intriguing question. TP's right though, bluesboy is probably the most knowledgeable person on the boards when it comes to these matters. A true music historian and enthusiast. bluesboy
...and I think your beard is very sexy! Thanks Peaches and Thanks Edna, My avatar is a picture of ZZ Top member Dusty Hill, not me. It's the closest looking photo to me I could come up with. I've had this ZZ top beard since 1977. Maybe someday soon I'll get my brother to take a picture with his digital camera so I can post a new avatar.
Tenacious_Peaches
I know the picture isn't of you, but you mentioned somewhere that you had a full beard...I'm sure you are just as cool if not cooler than ole Dusty! ::

muse2ponder
thanks muchly for your help... im beginning to conclude that the first covers were thanks to Steinweiss? seem reasonable? im admiring the work of roger dean and storm thorgerson at the moment, slightly more recent but masters in their fields nonetheless! i think so anyway. just been to see an exhibition of the latter and his work for pink floyd (and muse!) is truly surreal! well thanks for your help again! bluesboy
Charlotte, My first album cover book was: the Album Cover Album isbn # 0891040854 Edited by Storm Thorgerson (Hipgnosis) and Roger Dean publisher - Dragon's World (released 1977) 160 pages This is volume 1. I think there are at least 5 volumes by now. It's mostly 1950's, '60s and '70s album covers. It's done very well, very informative
Earth-Angel
I know nothing about the first, but these are by far the worst... http://www.cenedella.com/stone/archives/000302.html http://www.cenedella.com/stone/archives/000590.html Here's a little teaser to whet your appetites: And here I thought the whole point of an album cover was to attract your attention, make you want to buy the album and to leave a lasting impression in your mind for all the RIGHT reasons...!
