Elvish Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 We're having some rainy fall weather here and I remembered someone (MC___??) mentioned making a CD for when it rains. I think this is a great idea, but for some reason I'm a bit stumped. Here's what I have so far - suggestions, please! "Box of Rain" Grateful Dead "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain" Willie Nelson "Feels Like Rain" Buddy Guy "No Rain" Blind Melon
Jenny Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Rain on Me - The Who Mandolin Rain - Bruce Hornsby & The Range November Rain - Guns n Roses I Wish it Would Rain - The Temptations I Love a Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbitt
Tenacious_Peaches Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 The Rain - Missy Elliot The Rain - Oran "Juice" Jones (if you remember this song, you are as old and pitiful as I am) Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head - B.J. Thomas Stormy Weather - Lena Horne You could bust out with a little "Great Gig in the Sky" by PF for good measure.

Eggplant Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 "Rain in the Summertime" - The Alarm "Raining in Baltimore" - Counting Crows "Rain King" - Counting Crows (not really about rain though) "Rain Down"(?) - Phil Collins "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" - Bob Dylan(?) "Shadows in the Rain" - The Police "After The Rain" - Nelson "Blame It on the Rain" - Milli Vanilli "Rain When I Die" - Alice In Chains
miamisammy29 Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 There are several songs simply titled "Rain" by the following artists: Beatles, Todd Rundgren, Kiss, Uriah Heep, Insane Clown Posse, Pretty Things, Lynch Mob, The Cult, Madonna, Blondie, and Guano Apes....just to name a few. Then there's: "Rainfall" - The Vines "Rainfall" - A Flock of Seagulls "Red Rain" - Peter Gabriel "Acid Rain" - Silverchair "Cold Rain" - Crosby, Stills & Nash "Be the Rain" - Neil Young "Rain King" - Counting Crows (one of my favorites) "Rain Song" - Led Zeppelin (another of my favorites) "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" - BJ Thomas (et. al.) "A Hard's Rain's A-Gonna Fall" - Bob Dylan "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining!" ~~ Judge Judy
Malakin Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Well, for one thing, that Who song is not "Rain on Me". It's "Love Reign on Me" nothing at all to do with that kind of rain. Secondly, one I think no one mentioned is "I'm only Happy When it Rains" by Garbage. Incidentally, a studio goof, it was their first single. They were in the studio and the lead singer (forget her name) was complaining that she felt too happy to be singing their depressive songs, and another band member said "You're only happy when it's raining, aren't you?" And this song came out of that incidental comment.
Tenacious_Peaches Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Uncle Grandpa, that is one COMPLETE list you've got going on there. To take a page out of Elvish's book...how did I forget "Rainy Night in Georgia"? "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining!" ~~ Judge Judy

And this song came out of that incidental comment. You are somewhat correct about the title; it's "Love Reign O'er Me", but the lyrics are about rain and, therefore, the song does fit into this category. In fact, you can hear the rain in the background at the beginning and the end. "Love Reign O'er Me" (also known as "Pete's Theme") - The Who "Only love Can make it rain The way the beach is kissed by the sea Only love Can make it rain Like the sweat of lovers Laying in the fields. Love, Reign o'er me Love, Reign o'er me, rain on me Only love Can bring the rain That makes you yearn to the sky Only love Can bring the rain That falls like tears from on high Love Reign O'er me, rain over me, over me, over me, over me On the dry and dusty road The nights we spend apart alone I need to get back home to cool cool rain I can't sleep and I lay and I think The night is hot and black as ink Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain"

Mike Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 No More Rain (In This Cloud) by Angie Stone [intro] No more rain in this cloud No more rain in this cloud [1] - My sunshine has come And I'm all cried out And there's no more rain in this cloud My sunshine has come And I'm all cried out And there's no more rain in this cloud There's no hiding place When someone has hurt you It's written on your face, and it reads "Broken spirit, lost and confused" "Empty, scared, used and abused, a fool" Oh, ain't it funny that the way you feel Shows on your face (It's written all over your face, yeah) And the smile you used to wear Seems a little bit out of place (Tracks of your tears) People oh, hold on In time it gets a little better, whoa [Repeat 1] So you want to live and to you I shall give All the space that you requested Hope you don't live to regret it So you say you're in your prime Baby, don't waste your time Remember my love, it's only a thin line (It's never too late) [Repeat 1] Spring has come and winter's gone, my love But don't look around for me, child I'll be gone (I'll be gone, gone, gone, gone) Not afraid because the seasons have changed I'm gonna count my blessing then just follow the sun Cuz you see [Repeat 1 while:] Now, I wanna take a minute to kick it like this Y'all wit' me? Y'all know what I'm talkin' about? You know what to do There's no hiding place When you're hurting No, no, no Baby, don't want teardrops Drying up on my pillow (I used to think the world of you) Only room for raindrops Don't belong on my smile (Baby) And there's no rain in this cloud (There's, there's nothing I would not do) Baby, don't want teardrops Drying up on my pillow (You broke me down) Only room for raindrops Don't belong on my smile (You broke me way down) And there's no more rain in this cloud (You you you, baby broke me down) [Repeat 1 while:] What goes around, comes around What goes up, must come down Things you do, come back to you Y'all believe that? Goes around, comes around What goes up, must come down
Aunt_Acid Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 How is Showdown or Great Gig In The Sky about rain?
_Annabelle_ Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Some songs I think haven't been mentioned yet: "Another Rainy Night" ? Queensryche "Early Mornin? Rain" ? Bob Dylan "Falling of the Rain" ? Billy Joel "I?ll Take the Rain" ? R.E.M. "It Might As Well Rain until September" ? Carole King "One More Rainy Day" ? Deep Purple "Rain Rain Go Away" ? Bobby Vinton "See The Sky About to Rain" ? Neil Young "The Sky is Crying" ? Eric Clapton "Standin? in the Rain" ? ELO "Still Raining, Still Dreaming" ? Jimi Hendrix
_jr_ Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Sorry, Annabelle, but Stevie Ray's "The Sky is Cryin'" is better. IMO, anyway.Of couse, I'm biased, because SRV was the GREATEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME!!!
_Annabelle_ Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Lol, no need to apologize Jr, everyone's entitled to their opinions. :: And actually I didn't know SRV did a version of it, maybe I'll check it out...
DiggsUK Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 If you are thinking about a 'rain' CD, you could do a lot worse than include 'Tinsletown in the Rain' by The Blue Nile IMO. Regards
_jr_ Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 It's from the album of the same title. It was released after he died. His brother put it together, and I was expecting some crap, as it was all unreleased studio stuff. Man, was I wrong. It is , sincerely, a killer cd. There's a version of Little Wing that blows away any other version I've ever heard. The instrumental 'Wham' is gritty and kicks butt. The opening cut, Boot Hill, grabs you by the throat, and you can't get away for the duration of the CD. He also does another version of Empty Arms, which he also released on his Soul to Soul cd. The cd ends with just Stevie Ray and an acoustic guitar in a song called 'Life by the Drop', about his struggle with his addictions. I have all his stuff. I often wonder what he'd be doing today. Man, I miss that cat.
_Annabelle_ Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Sounds like a good album, thanks for the info. Couple more rain songs: "Raining" - Carly Simon "Rain Keeps Fallin'" - Grand Funk Railroad

XXX Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Cool. It hasn't been listed yet: "Rain" by Madonna
MarcM Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 "When It Rains" by X. A great song off of "See How We Are", X's first album that was not so much punk, but more mainstream. It's a cd really worth checking out.
