Shawna 1
Actually, Edna... I do remember that song! But not the day it was #1. I remember it cuz my mom had(s) it on a 45 and we used to listen to it a lot on our little portable turntables. "Sixteen tons, whaddaya get? Another day older and deeper in debt. St. Peter don'tcha call me, cuz I can't go... I owe my soul to the company store..."

OLD 55 6
It would be great to have an octogenarian songfactor... I'll see if I can hang on for another 15 years Edna. I had Frankie Laine's version of "Sixteen Tons" on a 78 RPM Record. I was a big fan of his (although I do prefer Tennessee Ernie's version now). I'm sure you'll all be amazed to hear that some Radio Stations wouldn't play Ernie's version because he sang "St.Peter don't you call me..." while Frankie sang "Brother don't you call me...". If only we could strike a balance between that ridiculous censorship and some of the grubby little songs that are allowed airplay now.
