xoit
Anyone like his music? he's one of my favorite lyricists and singers. Here's lyrics to some songs I like from him... Imagine: Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No Hell below us Above us only sky. Imagine all the people Living for today ... Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace ... You, you may say I am a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one. Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world ... You, you may say I am a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one. Women: Woman I can hardly exrpess My mixed emotions at my thoughtlessness After all I'm forever in your debt And woman I will try to express My inner feelings and thankfulness For showing me the meaning of success ooh well Woman I know you understand The little child inside the man Please remember my life is in your hands And woman hold me close to your heart However distant don't keep us apart After all it is written in the stars ooh well Woman please let me explain I never mean(t) to cause you sorrow or pain So let me tell you again and again and again (I love you now and forever) Beautiful Boy: Close your eyes Have no fear The monster's gone He's on the run and your daddy's here Beautiful Beautiful beautiful Beautiful Boy Before you go to sleep Say a little prayer Every day in every way It's getting better and better Beautiful Beautiful beautiful Beautiful boy Out on the ocean sailing away I can hardly wait To see you come of age But I guesss we'll both Just have to be patient It's a long way to go A hard row to hoe Yes it's a long way to go But in the meantime Before you cross the street Take my hand Life is what happens to you While you're busy Making other plans Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful boy Darling Darling Darling Sean
cosmosis
Probably the best songwriter in rock n roll. As much as I love his music, I can only listen to him for so long. You know, the pain, the whining, the self-portrayal...
_Annabelle_
Yes, he was certainly a great songwriter/singer/musician, he stayed true to himself lyrically and I admire that. Although I prefer his work with the Beatles, I do like some of his solo work. Couple of my favorites are "Watching the Wheels" and "Jealous Guy". Also, welcome to the boards, xoit. MindCrime
For a superstar, I felt he always kept his message & motto self-effacing, yet brilliantly graceful at the same time. One of my favorites is Instant Karma, as Cosmosis had listed in a previous post. Instant Karma's gonna get you Gonna knock you right on the head You better get yourself together Pretty soon you're gonna be dead What in the world you thinking of Laughing in the face of love What on earth you tryin' to do It's up to you, yeah you Instant Karma's gonna get you Gonna look you right in the face Better get yourself together darlin' Join the human race How in the world you gonna see Laughin' at fools like me Who in the hell d'you think you are A super star Well, right you are Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Well we all shine on Ev'ryone come on Instant Karma's gonna get you Gonna knock you off your feet Better recognize your brothers Ev'ryone you meet Why in the world are we here Surely not to live in pain and fear Why on earth are you there When you're ev'rywhere Come and get your share Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Yeah we all shine on Come on and on and on on on Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Yeah we all shine on On and on and on on and on Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Well we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun Yeah we all shine on Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Danielj
The best songwriter in rock n' roll was/is Bob Dylan. No Question IMO
edna
John Lennon (beatle and solo) is still and always on top. AND Bob Dylan. The world would be different if not for them. There are some others left, sure, but Lennon and Dylan were my teachers (thogh I´ve always been a fan of the rolling stones)
I am the flying pig
My personal favorite of him is Plastic Ono Band. "Working Class Hero" is probably the most recognized track from the album along with "God". But "Look At Me" is of the best melodies that John Lennon has ever written. cosmosis
Dylan?? I don't think he's that much rock anr roll.
MindCrime
Dylan?? I don't think he's that much rock and roll. I agree, he tends to retaliate towards folk & bluesy type music, more than rock itself. Comparing him to Lennon is just about impracticable, still a legend nonetheless. DiggsUK
To toss another name into the hat, does anybody here rate Tim Buckley? I personally consider him a superior musician and singer than the three mentioned above, and comparable to all three also in songwriting ability (albeit in a different direction). scott
John is, to put it simply, a rock n roll god. From his work with the Beatles to his excellent album 'Double Fantasy' it's all top notch.
Danielj
Well, some of Dylan's songs are most definetly r'n'r. Also, give a listen to Bob Dylan:Live at Budokan. Most rocking. Shows off some guitar skills too. He sounds better live than studio.
DiggsUK
Cosmosis, Tim Buckley was an American singer/songwriter of exquisite ability from the 1970s, not 'country', more an eclectic mix. He was the father of the late Jeff Buckley. I recommend 'Sefronia', 'Greetings from LA' and 'Happy Sad' as albums. I don't know if he issued any singles though. If you do have the time to check him out, you will I am sure be as amazed as me as to how he receives so little recognition. Regards
