Is it normal that I have just recently joined this site and I'm seeing posts from like 5 years ago and older ? When I look and see that people have been on this site for 15 years even, I'm wondering how come I have never come across it before? I hope I'm not being invasive by asking this question? I wish I had found this site along time ago.  Its pretty cool. Every one seems friendly and it's really informative.  God I can't believe I wasted so much time on other social media sites.

Here's the place to give us your suggestions for topics and themes, as well as other suggestions, so they don't get lost in the shuffle. :)

With our last two lists, Songfactors' Choice has really gained popularity. So far we've done:

  • Best Soundtracks
  • Christmas Wish List
  • Holiday Special
  • The Very Best of 2007
  • Women Gone Wild!
  • Distinctive Debuts

We need ideas for universal themes, to encourage the great participation we've been getting. Obviously, the more popular the topic, the more nominations (such as the last two lists) we get, which is the whole point.

Which leads to the suggestion of lists of 10, rather than 5. It's great idea... as long as we have the participation to support it. So we have suggestion #1, which is under serious advisement. :)

Give us whatcha got! ;)

are there that much acoustic albums?

cover albums?

I understand The Songfactors' Choice is for albums and the Songfactors' top 10 is for song?

or am I mistaken? :P

Technically that's correct Viaene, and we do try not to tread on territory covered by the other (in either forum), but we are also trying to expand SFC a bit, so it isn't just album releated. Ummm, (trying to explain) for SFC, think maybe, subject related. If it occaisionally overlaps into songs, no big deal, and vice versa with the Specials that Radhi runs. Remember the "best all time albums" we did as a Special a while back? For SFC the topics can be much broader, and include albums, "best use of music for..." and even overlap into DVD's etc.

I'm liking the ideas put forth so far! I have a couple to throw out as well:

1. Collaberations

2. Concert DVD's/films (with or without albums attached)

aye, I geddit ;) (tho I'm not sure if I was already here when you did the "best all time albums")

I like the 'Live albums' by the way ;)

When I prepare for an interview, at some point the essence of the subject becomes clear, and I know what I want to ask. It took me a few days to get there with Adam Duritz.

Most of us have some overarching theme that comes through in our worldview, and songwriters often express that in their songs. For much of Adam's career, this was the burden of fame, as Counting Crows released one of the best-selling debut albums of all-time, and in a short period of time, Adam's intimate moments became public - not just in his terrestrial life, but also in his songs.

But that was a long time ago.

Now that the adulation has subsided, Adam has become more guarded in his creative output, which means he won't just pour his heart out in a song and foist it on the public. The last Counting Crows album was all cover songs, which spared him this burden.

This all stems from Adam's revelation that his songs are all about him. He doesn't enter the mind of someone else, and he doesn't write on spec (even that Shrek song delved into his psyche).

When I spoke with Adam yesterday, I was happy to hear him expound on upcoming projects with a newfound passion. With that out of the way, we explored songwriting technique, where he explained that it's the rich, authentic details that matter. Adam mentions real and specific people and places in his songs (Anna, the New Amsterdam), which is what paints their vibrant colors. And yes, Springsteen came up in this conversation.

I'll post the link once we put this together, but wanted to share some of these thoughts while they were still fresh.

As an aside, if you were to put boy parts together to create the perfect specimen that would attract beautiful actresses, you would end up with the 1994-1996 version of Adam. His combination of mystery and talent landed him two Friends stars when the show was the hottest thing on TV, plus Mary Louise Parker, Samantha Mathis, and a few others he remains coy about.

Wow. Sounds like a love quadrangle. Check out "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band:

You love her
But she loves him
And he loves somebody else
You just can't win

Did this song feature in The Wedding Singer? Love Stinks sounds familiar?

I didn't join 15 years ago, but I do my best to *bump* the "All Things Music" subset. Ever since Last.fm terminated all forums and fan posts, I've been hanging out here to see if there is "Life on Mars." (It seems to be very sparse.)

Folks in search of Music on the Interweb don't have many choices these days, between "Buy 'N Large" (Apple) or "We Think You Like This?" (Spotify). For really obscure music, I sometimes drop by CD Baby, if a "Toy Cows in Africa"-like track catches my eye/ear on YouTube.

So now I travel the "Roads to Moscow" while "Dancing in the Moonlight," on the way to "Scarborough Fair.";)  Patrick Abe

It appears that Leonard Cohen has passed away. One of the truly great songwriters of his time, he made the kind of music that merits discussion, which made him a Songfacts favorite. His most famous song, by far, is "Hallelujah," which has consistently been one of the most-discussed and analyzed.

Details aren't out yet, but he just released and album called You Want It Darker. It's hard to tell if the album is informed by his parting, as he's always written about mortality and religion.

I also saw EYEgor drop in briefly. Had to get my DVD of Young Frankenstein and watch it again. Hilarious. Pity that most of the actors in it are deceased.

Y'all thought you'd got rid of me

But my life is meaningless without my Fin and Farin. Coming back here reminds me of all our time together, and makes me a bit sad. I don't know where they are (or even if they're still alive???) but I hope they're happy.

hey gang, I haven't been around too much lately. but still refer back here from time to time, mostly for the wealth of information on my favorite subject and lifes ambition to breathe music with every breath I take.

Good to see so many old friends around this grand ol' site. I'm retired now since Nov. 3rd 2017 and actually busier than ever living life to it's fullest. I get one meaningful Christmas card a year and that's from our *founding father the amazing (yet modest) Carl.  lol.

Since I was in the neighborhood and smacked my head, omg, have to stumble into the songfacts forum and see what the hell is going on these days, It wouldn't be fair to not share one of the most amazing, incredible musical references I have recently encounters in my cyber-tours. From one of my favorite soundtracks from one of my favorite movies.

If anybody cares about my daily ramblings about music via Twitter...you can find me at Best Song I Heard Today @bestsongIheard

I do Top 10's, songs of the day, photos of my vinyl collection and lot's of random nonsense. Much like I did on SongFacts.

I'm almost up to 4000 followers and I get some play from some rockers like Tommy James, Eric Carmen, Dave Davies and others.

It's fun for me.

Carl, Thanks. Of course I follow SongFacts too. I have a lot of fun with it. It's really just the way I'd be talking about music with friends and whoever else is in earshot. The marketing aspect fascinates me too. I like when I figure something out and get a big response. Ron

Hey folks,

My wide-open musical tastes haven't changed since I first since I first signed on here in 2005, but pretty much lost my taste for the specks of smart-alecky trivia that seemed to be my specialty.  My interests have moved back to reading, writing and goofy image manipulation (photoshop stuff).

About eighteen months ago, We moved cross-country to larger rural property with space to raise a lot of our own produce, chickens and my girlfriend's expanding personal petting zoo (2 goats and a pig).  Looks like I last ventured to Songfacts May 2018.  Never have been a social networking person, but will likely drop in when my chores are done.
