Otokichi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4YUJlCzZj0I had finished posting here a day or two ago, and wondered about the origins of Christmas Carols. So I looked up a number of them, from "Silent Night/Stille Nacht" to "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." The biggest surprise I got was when I looked up "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and found out about it's Cold War origins. Imagine that, a song composed during The Cuban Missile Crisis as a plea for Peace On Earth. I'll never look down on this song again, as "child simple/treacly overplayed" Christmas mall Muzak ever again. Dona Nobis Pacem. Edited December 24, 2015 by Otokichi The original choral version sounds best.
Carl
Yeah, that's one of the stranger Christmas song stories. It feels like the song is from 1863, not 1963.
