Songs of Hell

Nirvana's Lake of Fire is undoubtedly my favourite song about where do bad folks go. I'd like to hear others' favourite songs about the lake of fire (hell).

~Lake of Fire~

Where do bad folks go when they die?

They don't go to Heaven where the Angels fly.

Go to a Lake of Fire and fry.

See em' again till the 4th of July.

I knew a lady who came from Duluth.

Bit by a dog with a rabid tooth.

She went to her grave just a little too soon.

Flew and laid down on the yellow moon.

Where do bad folks go when they die?

They don't go to Heaven where the Angels fly.

Go to a Lake of Fire and fry.

See em' again till the 4th of July.

People cry and people moan.

Look for a dry place to call their home.

Try to find a place to rest their bones.

While the Angels and the Devils try to make their own.

Where do bad folks go when they die?

They don't go to Heaven where the Angels fly.

Go to a Lake of Fire and fry.

See em' again till the 4th of July.

Muzik, I'm sure you were looking for something deeper, but this catchy little ditty was the first thing that came to my mind...

Hell

Squirrel Nut Zippers

People listen attentively

I mean about future calamity

I used to think the idea was obsolete

Until I heard the old man stamping his feet

This is a place where eternally

Fire is applied to the body

Teeth are extruded and bones are ground

And baked into cakes which are passed around

In the afterlife

You could be headed for the serious strife

Now you make the scene all day

But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

Beauty, talent, fame, money, refinement , job skill and brain

And all the things you try to hide

Will be revealed on the other side.

Now the D and A and the M and the N and the A

And the T and the I-O-N

Loose your face

Loose your name

And get fitted for a suit of flames.

:googly: :googly: :googly: :googly: :googly:

I always thought Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" was about hell, but it's about love. Insert your own "love is hell" joke here...

Jeeze.... No one has included this yet?

I?m a rolling thunder, a pouring rain

I?m comin? on like a hurricane

White lightning flashing, across the sky

You?re only young, but you?re gonna die

Ahhhh, won?t take no prisoners, won?t spare no lives

Nobody?s putting up a fight

I got the bell, I?m gonna take you to hell

I?m gonna get you, satan get you

Hell?s bells

Yeah, hell?s bells

You got me ringing hell?s bells

My temperature?s high, hell?s bells

I?ll give you black sensations up and down your spine

If you?re into evil you?re a friend of mine

See the white light flashing as I split the night

?cause if good?s on the left, then I?m stickin? to the right

I won?t take no prisoners, won?t spare no lives

Nobody?s puttin? up a fight

I got the bell, I?m gonna take you to hell

I?m gonna get you, satan get you

Hell?s bells

Yeah, hell?s bells

You got me ringing hell?s bells

My temperature?s high, hell?s bells

Yeow

Hell?s bells, satan?s callin' to you

Hell?s bells, he?s ringing them now

Hell?s bells, the temperature?s high

Hell?s bells, across the sky

Hell?s bells, they?re takin? you down

Hell?s bells, they?re draggin? you around

Hell?s bells, gonna split the night

Hell?s bells, there?s no way to fight, yeah

Ow, ow, ow, ow

Hell?s bells

Okay, this one is not actually about hell, but still an awesome song.

Robert Johnson - Hellhound On My Trail

I got to keep movin', I've got to keep movin'

Blues fallin' down like hail, blues fallin' down like hail

Umm mmm mmm mmm

Blues fallin' down like hail, blues fallin' down like hail

And the days keeps on worryin' me,

there's a hellhound1 on my trail,

hellhound on my trail, hellhound on my trail

If today was Christmas eve

If today was Christmas eve,

and tomorrow was Christmas day

If today was Christmas eve,

and tomorrow was Christmas day

(spoken: Aow, wouldn't we have a time, baby?)

All I would need my little sweet rider just,

to pass the time away, huh huh, to pass the time away

You sprinkled hot foot powder, mmm

mmm, around my door, all around my door

You sprinkled hot foot powder, mmm,

all around your daddy's door, hmm hmm hmm

It keep me with ramblin' mind, rider

Every old place I go, every old place I go

I can tell, the wind is risin',

the leaves tremblin' on the tree,

tremblin' on the tree

I can tell, the wind is risin',

leaves tremblin' on the tree

hmm hmm mmm mmm

All I need's my little sweet woman,

and to keep my company, hmmm hmm, hey hey

My company

~~~ RUSH ~~~
Alex's wailing on his white ES-355....
?By-Tor And The Snow Dog
I. At the Tobes of Hades
The Tobes of Hades
Lit by flickering torchlight
The Netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern
To the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air
By-Tor, knight of darkness,
Centurion of evil
Devil's prince
II. Across the Styx
Across the River Styx
Out of the lamplight
His nemesis is waiting at the gate
The Snow Dog, ermine glowing
In the damp night
Coal-black eyes shimmering with hate
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Square for battle
Let the fray begin
III. Of the Battle
Instrumental
IV. Epilogue
The battle's over
And the dust is clearing
Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell
Rejoicing echoes
As the dawn is nearing
By-Tor in defeat
Retreats to Hell
Snow Dog is victorious
The land of the Overworld
Is saved again
Slayer's South Of Heaven:
An unforseen future nestled somewhere in time.
Unsuspecting victims no warnings, no signs.
Judgment day the second coming arrives.
Before you see the light you must die.
Forgotten children, conform a new faith,
Avidity and lust controlled by hate.
(The) Never ending search for your shattered sanity,
Souls of Damnation in their own reality.
Chaos rampant,
An age of distrust.
Confrontations.
Impulsive habitat.
Bastard sons bagat your cunting daughters,
Promiscuous mothers with your incestuous fathers.
Engreat souls condemned for eternity,
Sustained by immoral observance a domineering deity.
Chaos rampant,
An age of distrust.
Confrontations.
Impulsive sabbath.
On and on, south of heaven [x 4]
[LEAD: KING]
The root of all evil is the heart of a black soul.
A force that has lived all eternity.
A never ending search for a truth never told.
The loss of all hope and your dignity.
Chaos rampant,
An age of distrust.
Confrontations.
Impulsive habitat.
On and on, south of heaven [x 4]
This one is about a green hell??
Misfit's Green Hell:
Here in this place lies the key to your death, Touch it, see it (oh)
Here in this place is the means to your end, Touch it, feel it
Green hell
You did your best as someone could
I bet you never knew you would
And did you run away from me
I bet you thought you really could
We're gonna burn in hell, Green hell
Like every hell but kind of green, Green hell, green hell
Try let me get back up there, Green hell, green hell
Feel it burning in your cereal, Green hell, green hell
Throw your f___ing friends inside, Green hell, green hell
Gotta f___ing pay and you must stay, Green hell
Cannot refill the torch of death, Green hell, green hell
Hell is reigning in your blood, Green hell, green hell
Gotta burn it all
Green hell
You did your best as someone could
I bet you never knew you would
And did you run away from me
I bet you thought you really could
Here in this place lies the key to your death, Touch it, see it (oh)
Here in this place is your world that ended, Touch it, feel it
Green hell
You did your best as someone could
I bet you never knew you would
And did you run away from me
I bet you thought you really could
You've come to this as someone told
I bet you never knew you would
Gonna bring green hell
Green hell
Here's a funny one that sounds like it came out of a Tarantino movie.
Cramps
Aloha From Hell
Gonna take a week off.
Gonna go to Hell.
Send ya a postcard.
Hey I'm doin' swell! Wish you were here.
Aloha from Hell.
I'll be dancin' thru the flames.
Like a devil in disguise.
You can hear me sing.
But not by satellite.
You can hear me sing.
Aloha from Hell.
Gonna get a lei.
Ring o'fire round my neck.
Big ol' she-devil kiss.
Aw hell! What the heck?
I'm packin' my duds.
Aloha from Hell.
I'll be glad to get away.
Up here everything's so swell.
You know some like it hot and down there it's hot as Hell.
Don't forget to write.
Aloha from Hell.
Hey everyone and thanks for the contributions.
I'm going to start a thread about hell soon and this one is a great draft for ideas and commentary.
Scott, props to you for pointing out what I did not know. I really like the Meat Puppets and wasn't aware they were the originators of The Lake of Fire.
Kinda strange that I never heard that version and can't imagine anyone doing it better than Cobain. I must hear the 'Puppets' version now as I'm curious of the difference.
I love the lament sound of the guitar's sliding chord structure in Nirvana's version. It sounds like something deep and foreboding.
Cobain knows for sure now whether or not it's all true.
Thanks scott. I looked through my collection and only have the Too High to Die CD. It's very good and am wondering why I never got any more of their work.
Guess what my next addition will be? ::
Anyway, about The Lake of Fire:
Obviously, Cobain had a lighthearted attitude concerning it's message but sang and played that song in a way that did it's meaning great justice.
Yeah, you also have to look at the song in the context of the concert (the obvious one is that there were some Meat Puppets backing Nirvana up)
but Cobain had gone on a subtle religous theme for the show (some are obvious like 'Lake of Fire' and 'Jesus Don't Want For A Sunbeam', but then there are little messages 'Man Who Sold The World')
Heaven and Hell by The Who
On top of the sky is a place where you go
If you've done nothing wrong
If you've done nothing wrong
And down in the ground is a place where you go
If you've been a bad boy
If you've been a bad boy
Why can't we have eternal life
And never die
Never die
In the place up above you grow feather wings
And you fly round and round
With a harp singing hymns
And down in the ground you grow horns and a tail
And you carry a fork
And burn away
Why can't we have eternal life
And never die
Never die
On top of the sky is a place where you go
If you've done nothing wrong
If you've done nothing wrong
And down in the ground is a place where you go
If you've been a bad boy
If you've been a bad boy
Why can't we have eternal life
And never die
Never die
Never die
True.
I know there are many who think that Cobain was murdered. I remember back when he was having the problems with heroin and freely admitting that he was trying to commit suicide.
I believe his fame overshadowed the seriousness of what was going on at the time and also allowed him certain privileges that the average person would not have had.
If I went out here today and tried to commit suicide in front of people or admitted it readily to reporters, I'd be somewhere in a padded room on a 24/7 suicide watch and interviewed constantly by psychiatrists and intervention specialists.
He sang his message and cried for help but no one gave it.
It's the greatest tragedy in the history of music because his death was intentional, unlike the other icons who in a sense died by their own hands.
Not trying to make this a Cobain thread, but if anyone sang about hell it was him.
My favourite hard, dark band is no other than Overkill. Here's one of their many songs depicting the ruthfulness of the never ending fire which is the eternity of sorrow. This song has one of my favourite intros of all-time as it is as foreboding and impending as what comes to those that believe not in their heart.
It's titled Horroscope on the album by the same name:
Critical moments pass,
And doctrines of fools will last.
I am just trying to cope,
Into my horroscope.
Through eyes and ears they bleed,
Reciting their holy creed.
Heeding but one request,
The future, is put to, rest...
Bless me in darkened days,
Down to my knees I pray.
I am just trying to cope,
Within this horrorscope.
In the wake of all frustration,
I begin to loose control.
Watched as the weapons fired,
Bombs burst in the air...
Burned in the fields of fire!
Standing in the middle of nowhere.
Watched as the weapons fired,
Baptized in fields of fire!
Well,
The change in here, an' the future clear.
I can feel it coming.
So full of hate, its geting late!
Yeah, I know its coming.
When all the choice turned to just one voice,
Yeah, the wind is turning.
This is your horrorscope...
Words laced with blasphemy,
Drip with sincerity.
Falling into the plan,
Like sacrificial lambs.
Hearing the words and said,
Rings like nail, to the head.
Now I can see the stars,
I know we have gone too far.
Baptized in fields of fire,
Watched as the weapons fired.
This is your horrorscope.
