RonJonSurfer Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 I am hitting Times Square and Broadway a night early this year. Going to see Beautiful - The Carole King Musical on Broadway tomorrow. Will check out the store window decorations like Macy's. Go to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Grab something to eat and head to the show. By the way I live close enough to New York City that I can see the skyline from my town, but I've never gone to Times Square on New Year's Eve...we'll leave that to the tourists and the ghosts of Guy Lombardo and Dick Clark.
Jenny Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 How was the musical? I don't blame you for not going into the city on New Year's Eve. I prefer being in my warm house in my PJ's eating crap and watching movies than standing for hours in the cold with no bathroom surrounded by drunk strangers.
RonJonSurfer Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 It was great. If you like music from that era they sang and played the best. The story that they told was really good too. Good stuff.
RonJonSurfer Posted January 6, 2015 Author Report Posted January 6, 2015 I'd love to be there... Come to New York and we'll go.
edna Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Oh my, how I wish I was in NYC right now... or next week. With my brother and wife in the Village and my sister and the litle nephew in Boston... nearer than Madrid...
RonJonSurfer Posted January 13, 2015 Author Report Posted January 13, 2015 So you have good reason to pay a visit some day.
edna Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Some day? I wonder if I'm not going to retire in NYC...
Jenny Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 I would wait until nicer weather to visit, Elena. It is no picnic to walk around in the cold and subways and cabs can be expensive. If it's nice, you can walk and save your money for shows, dinners and shopping.
edna Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Oh, I only know manhattan in summer but I love the city and I know I will love it even in winter. I guess heating will help...
RonJonSurfer Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 Jenny is right. It is wonderful to walk around NYC when the weather is nice and warm...great for people watching too.
_Laurie_ Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 I have been to NYC twice...once around Christmas time and it was absolutely beautiful...and yes the people are very interesting in the summer...loved people watching also...so much we didn't see though..maybe we will go again sometime...
RonJonSurfer Posted January 18, 2015 Author Report Posted January 18, 2015 How far are you from NYC Laurie? I know it's a good hike from Northern NY State. Taking traffic out of the equation I can be in Midtown Manhattan in 25 minutes. that includes driving east to the NJ Turnpike, heading north and over to the Lincoln Tunnel, then through the tunnel. I might be able to get downtown a few minutes faster using the Holland Tunnel. It takes a little more time to get Uptown via the George Washington Bridge. No excuses for me to miss the sights.
_Laurie_ Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 I'm in Western New York...so we are about 6 or 7 hours from NYC...
