Chris Kelly Dead: Kris Kross Rapper Dies at Age 34

Chris Kelly, member of nineties rap duo Kris Kross, is dead, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to the Huffington Post. Kelly was 34.

The Medical Examiner's Office said it could not provide more details about the circumstances of his death at this time.

Unnamed sources told CBS Atlanta that Kelly was found dead at his Atlanta home.

Kelly was pronounced dead at 5p.m. Wednesday, authorities told the Associated Press. His cause of death is yet to be determined.

These guys were a pretty big deal in 1992 - they had a #1 hit with "Jump" and another song, "Warm It Up," went to #13. Much of their success is owed to their producer, Jermaine Dupri, but as kid rappers go, they were more than competent.

They were right in the wheelhouse of the radio station I was working for at the time, so we did some promotions around them and introduced their concert at the New York State Fair.

Early '90s Hip-Hop acts often had a short shelf life (Bell-Biv-Devoe comes to mind), and when Kris Kross reinvented themselves without the krossed-out gimmick (wearing their clothes backwards) and looking all hard, nobody was buying it - literally. It's tough being on top and then watching it vanish, especially when you're still a teenager.
