aussiemaid Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 i grew up on 50's, 60's music and love the big bad john song.........i have heard a female "reply" to the song but can't for the life of me remember who sang it or what it was called. Any wonderful people out there who can help?
MuzikTyme Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 The sausage king, Jimmy Dean, sang Big Bad John. He lives in a mansion not far from me and last I heard he drove reporters off with a shotgun! ::
aussiemaid Posted September 3, 2004 Author Report Posted September 3, 2004 yes the original was by Jimmy Dean.............I am after the female "REPLY" to the song though
MuzikTyme Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Ah, a case of misinterpretation. Sorry. The reply you speak of, do you mean it's a totally different song?
aussiemaid Posted September 3, 2004 Author Report Posted September 3, 2004 yes it is...........yanno how there is the song "man from wolverton mountain"?? then a female sang "I'm the girl from wolverton mountain"? Was like a reply to the song. That is what I maen..........in the sont there is a big girl who goes down the mine to get big bad john out
MuzikTyme Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 I gottcha. While searching for song remakes, parodies and replies, I came across a song titled Big Fat Joint. I'm safe to say that this isn't the song you had in mind. :: We have a rundown of Big Bad John in the Songfacts database but no mention of your song. I will suggest, once this mystery is solved, that it be added to Songfacts' Big Bad John summary. My search continues...
EasyRider Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 yes the original was by Jimmy Dean.............I am after the female "REPLY" to the song though the "reply" song I remember was not by a woman but by Jimmy Dean himself. The title is "The Cajun Queen"
EasyRider Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 The Cajun Queen Jimmy Dean She kinda breezed into town from New Orleans, And said, "Boys, I'm Big John's Cajun Queen, Now I didn't come here to argue or waste anbody's time, I just came to get my man from your dirty old mine, 'Cause he moves me! Now where you give up's where old Queenie's gonna start, 'Cause I got a powerful love in my heart, So just show me the hole way down in the ground, And tell the whole wide world Big John's been found, And he's livin'!" So down in the mine without a sign of a light, Old Queenie went a-lookin' for John that night, She found him there at the bottom of the pit, And placed a red hot kiss on those cold blue lips! He started breathin'! She waited a minute and then she kissed him again, And old John got the power of a hundred men, Up he come a-clawin' and a-diggin' like a mole, And said, "Come on Queenie, we're gonna leave this hole!" They started walkin'! Now a roar from the crowd greeted this fine pair, As they both walked out in that cool night air, And up for silence went Big John's hand, And the Queen said, "I told you I'd get my man, 'Cause he moves me!" You can find them today, they're down in New Orleans, Big Bad John and his Cajun Queen, They're a little bit wrinkled from the strain of time, But their love's just as strong as that night in the mine, A hundred and ten grandchildren! Now the moral of this story has a real clear omen, Don't you ever underestimate the power of a woman!
aussiemaid Posted September 4, 2004 Author Report Posted September 4, 2004 thank you thank you thank you...........that has made my day. I knew it was about his "woman" and the memory is slowing, so i assumed it was sung by a female Again..........THANK YOU
aussiemaid Posted September 4, 2004 Author Report Posted September 4, 2004 now just have to find a copy of it :-( Have just done a search on Winmx and no-one has it
EasyRider Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 I am downloading both songs at this moment with Kazaa Lite K++ ......it's much better than WinMX in my opinion.
mrclick Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 aussiemaid, Glad you got your answer. I wonder if you were aware there was actually another song that parodied Big John. It was called "Small Sad Sam". Not a great big hit, but as soon as I saw your post, it got me to thinking about that song. Here are the words to it...... http://www.supergas.tv/html/lyrics/small_sad_sam.txt enjoy
Dee tate Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 It was Dottie West who sang the answer to Big John
