joeymongoi Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Used the search and couldn't find any threads regarding this song. Is not listed on the website, nor in any other sites dedicated to interpreting song lyrics. I was wandering if you could help me figure out what this song is about. Yoav - Beautiful Lie Yesterday, today, tomorrow Fade away like frozen photographs. Remember, forget The stakes, the ways you take, The ways you make the moments pass. For every regret, I tell a beautiful lie. And I would die if you find out. I tell a beautiful lie every time that I did not open up my mouth. All the same, it’s a game, it’s a play, it’s a war, it’s a shame that we’re always fighting for. I don’t mean to cast no blame, I don’t intend to pretend, I could, never loved you more. But in the blink of an eye, everything you ever knew can change And it’s a beautiful lie if you think everything will always stay the same. Babe. My babe. You got a secret – it’s starting to show. My babe. Sweet babe. How long can you keep it? How far would you go? You tell a beautiful lie. You tell a beautiful lie. And it’s going to, it’s going to drive you crazy. Babe My babe. It’s starting to show. My babe. Sweet babe. How far would you go, go, go to tell a beautiful lie? Yesterday, today, tomorrow Fade away like frozen photographs Remember, forget Forever. Lie. Beautiful lie. Edited June 26, 2012 by Guest
Farin Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 hmm... seems the protagonist is in a relationship and things or his feelings for his significant other have changed, but he doesn't tell her, instead telling her "beautiful lie"s so that she can "think everything will always stay the same" and in the second verse he realises that she's probably doing the same thing to him... ...or something - I just listened to the song once What do you think it's about? PS and welcome to SF
joeymongoi Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Thank you! Actually, i have two theories, but I rather not post them for now, I don't wanna influence other peoples opinion! I'll comment later if there are no more anwers! But I thought you view was pretty good, and i'm inclined to agree with it!
Rayzor Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 The way I heard & read it was that the guy was cheated on by his mate but he refuses to accept it and she's unwilling to admit it, thus the "beautiful lie".
_Laurie_ Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Welcome to Songfacts Joeymongoi!....I was thinking along the same lines as Rayzor...that he knows he's been cheated on and she won't admit it...
Farin Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 The way I heard & read it was that the guy was cheated on by his mate but he refuses to accept it and she's unwilling to admit it, thus the "beautiful lie". But what is HIS lie then? "For every regret, I tell a beautiful lie. And I would die if you find out."
miamisammy29 Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 It sounds to me like she caught the herpes, too.
joeymongoi Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Well, it could be about cheating, but i honestly don't think so. The beautiful lie seems not to be to himself, as it would be the case if he knew the other one was cheating. Also, the second part of the song seems to be the mate telling him, and I don't think that it would say that if it was cheating. Before the post of Larin, i had two theories, but now i'm inclined to agree with him. The first theory, which is weaker, is that is about someone that is in love with another, but is afraid to show his feelings or try something, because it is afraid that the other people will not want anything romantic and that would only set them apart and ruin their present condition. That theory is based mostly on the "I would die if you find out" and the "i tell i beautiful lie everytime i did not open my mouth", in which the singer seems to have this feeling that he doesn't have courage to show and that he does not want the other to know. Problems with this theory: this lie is not beautiful, he mentions blame and the fact that he could love her more, which does not add up and seh calls him baby, which suggests that they already have a relationship. Phew. Second theory is that they are in a relationship, but not a very serious one, and that is about to implode, because both of them have this failure to open up and give in. They are together, but none of them are able to open up their mouths about the feelings, or love the other to fullest extent and they tell this beautiful lie that everything will stay the same without further commitent of effort, they will continue this without anyone getting hurt. Something along those lines. This is more plausible, but then again, i guess i may be biased on this one. But, i guess farin's theory is way more accurate, and I cannot find any flaws on the interpretation. It does add up with the lie beeing beautiful, with him not blaming the other and reconizing that he could loved her more but just can't, and knows that everything will not stay the same and they will eventually break up cause his feelings are fading... Anyway, thanks for the help, the welcomes, and if anyone has any other views or thoughts i'd be glad to read! Edited June 28, 2012 by Guest
Rayzor Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 joeymongoi... I'm not trying to convince you that my theory is correct, but I just wanted to clarify something about a line you mentioned. You said that the first theory wouldn't hold up for a few reasons including the lie not being beautiful. I'm not sure if it's just a bad choice of words but I don't think any lies in a relationship is beautiful. I think the songwriter is using "beautiful" to mean well-constructed. That's just me though... perhaps it's purposely written to have more than one meaning (I often do that when I write poetry or songs)
joeymongoi Posted July 4, 2012 Author Report Posted July 4, 2012 For me, a beautiful lie would be any that, to the person who hears it, is better than the true. Or maybe better is not the word, more pleasant. He lies when he does not say that he no longer loves the other one, which is still in love with him, so for the person whos beeing lied too, the lie would be beautiful. Anyway, that's what I get from the lyrics, but i may be wrong.
Rayzor Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 I don't think you can be wrong. That is the greatest gift music gives to us all. The power to be right no matter what!
Shawna Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 and what I'm getting out of it is that it's like someone who's dreaming... replace the word "lie" with "dream," and they've got a beautiful dream that will change, since dreams are a form of a lie, anyway. I think it's more like a message to everyone - every single person has a beautiful lie/dream that they want to believe, but rarely can. And I agree with Rayzor on the "beautiful" part being poetic justice on the way it's constructed as opposed to its contents. It's all about interpretation.
