This 45 record was in Dialogue where a little girl is asking a man {maybe her father}questions about Billy, war ,and why do men fight,When is billy coming home? The man is replying to her questions. She keeps asking {Daddy why} or {Why daddy}.Then he tells her time for bed kitten. He says goodnight kitten. There is music in the back ground. The hit for this man was on the flip side of the 45 record. It was played on the radio alot.It was around the late 60's or very early 70's. We have been looking for over 5 years, people rememeber this song, parts of the dialogue and even hearing it on the radio. But no one can think of who it was.... THANKS

Not sure but this song came to mind:

Billy Don't Be A Hero

Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods

[Words and Music by Mitch Murray and Peter Robin Callander]

The marchin' band came down along Main Street

The soldier-blues fell in behind

I looked across and there I saw Billy

Waiting to go and join the line

And with her head upon his shoulder

His young and lovely fiancee

>From where I stood, I saw she was cryin'

And through her tears I heard her say

"Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"

"Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife"

And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"

"Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me"

The soldier-blues were trapped on a hillside

The battle raging all around

The sergeant cried "We've got to hang on, boys"

"We got to hold this piece a'ground"

"I need a volunteer to ride up"

"And bring us back some extra men"

And Billy's hand was up in a moment

Forgettin' all the words she said

She said

"Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"

"Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife"

And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"

"Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me"

I heard his fiancee got a letter

That told how Billy died that day

The letter said that he was a hero

She should be proud he died that way

I heard she threw that letter away

Is this it?

Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast

( Wayne Newton )

The love between the two of us was dying

And it got so bad I knew I had to leave

But halfway down that highway when I turned around I saw

My little daughter running after me

Crying

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Now, it broke my heart to tell my little daughter

That her daddy had to run to catch a train

She had no way of knowin' I was leavin' home for good

I turned around and there she was again

As she said to me

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

If only for the sake of my sweet daughter

I just had to turn back home right there and then

And try to start a new life with the mother of my child

I couldn't bear to hear those words again

She cried and said

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

(My daughter cried)

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run

Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run

Oh, daddy, don't you walk so fast

It's a small Internet lolli. ::

In searching for your song, I found you at another site requesting the same answer. See if you can think of any other verses that I can use to help narrow the search.

I vaguely remember the song you are talking about but cannot for the life of me reach any accurate verse.

What other singers would you compare our mystery one to? Was it mainly dialogue or was there a memorable melody?
