Mike
This year marks The Beatles‘ 50th anniversary since making their debut and permanently changing the face of music. Many tribute albums, books and other special memorabilia are being made available for the special milestone, but the hometown of the Fab Four — Liverpool, England — is gearing up for their own celebration of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr with a variety of music and film related events to be held throughout 2012. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will perform ‘The Two of Us: The Lennon and McCartney Songbook’ this coming June, and the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall will host a special Beatles weekend in December. “We’re delighted to be playing our part in this special Beatles anniversary, paying our tribute to the four Liverpool lads whose music continues to have an extraordinary impact around the world,†Michael Eakin, CEO of the Philharmonic, tells the Guardian. Of course, the very special anniversary of Aug. 19 — the night 50 years ago where the Beatles took the stage together for the first time at the Cavern — will be honored as well as the start of International Beatles Week. The week will consist of gigs, talks and conventions, all in tribute to the band. The festivities will carry on into October (5-7) when the ‘Love Me Do’ weekend begins, celebrating the release of the band’s debut single. Steel2Velvet
So, only 6 weeks from the initial London Cavern performance to their first hit single. Did not realize it happened that quickly (understanding that dues were paid in Hamburg and other Euro venues for a couple of years previously.) Shows how Brian Epstein was very efficient as manager. Hopefully he won't be forgotten in all the hoopla.
