MindCrime Posted February 13, 2012 Report Share Posted February 13, 2012 Adele hit the jackpot with her "21" album Sunday night at the 54th annual Grammy Awards, easily managing a clean sweep of all six of her nominations. She became the first artist to take home all three of the top awards -- record and song of the year for "Rolling in the Deep" and album of the year for "21" -- since the Dixie Chicks in 2007. She was also the biggest individual winner since Santana won a record-setting eight awards for "Supernatural" in 2000. And she topped the wins with a successful return to performing since October, when she suffered a hemorrhage of her vocal cords and had to undergo surgery. "It's been the most life-changing year," Adele said after completing the sweep with her album of the year win. Foo Fighters had a pretty great night as well, landing five awards for their album of the year nominee "Wasting Light." Dave Grohl and friends won best long form video, best rock song and best rock performance for "Walk," best metal performance for "White Limo" and best rock album. "This is a great honor," said Grohl. "This record was a special record for our band . . . It shows that the human element in music is what's most important. It's not about what goes on in a computer." Kanye West, who started with a night-leading seven nominations, received three awards -- best rap song and best rap/sung collaboration for "All of the Lights" and best rap album for "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy." Best new artist nominee Skrillex also won three awards, best remix and best dance song and best dance album for "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," though Bon Iver walked away with the best new artist award. LAST LAUGH.Taylor Swift won two awards for "Mean," best country song and best country solo performance. "There's really no feeling quite like writing a song about someone who's really mean to you, someone who completely hates you, who makes your life miserable, and then winning a Grammy for it," Swift said in her acceptance speech. She later changed the lyrics to "Someday, I'll be singing this at the Grammys and all you're ever gonna be is mean." EARLY VALENTINE.Sir Paul McCartney delivered quite a gift to his new wife, East Hampton transportation executive Nancy Shevell, with a stirring rendition of "My Valentine," augmented by a string session, Diana Krall on piano and Joe Walsh on guitar. It's very rare in the modern music world for somebody to emerge that everybody enjoys, but I don't know a single person who doesn't like Adele. How awesome was the end of the show? Carl Posted February 13, 2012 Report Share Posted February 13, 2012 I love that Adele and her very normal looking boyfriend clearly got no professional help with their fashion. She did a great performance of "Rolling In The Deep," but you can tell that the vitriol she wrote it with is long gone, and she's now just singing about a "rubbish relationship." Got me wondering if Whitney Houston suffered by never writing her own songs. She was always putting on an act in a sense, singing songs that were meaningful to their writers but not to her - notably Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." The album was great and, as Tim said, it's not my favorite album of the year, but it was a huge album. And it's way better than everyone circlejerking over Lady Gaga's crappy album. Kanye definitely deserved rap album of the year, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" was amazing. I thought it was a pretty good Grammys. Except for Nicki Minaj's performance. That was just strange. But for gits and shiggles I listened to her on youtube (couldn't see video). she sounds like everything else being pumped out of the corporate machine if you ask me.
