TheLizard
Shocking. Can't call myself a fan, but between her and Michael Jackson, I guess this just shows the real dark side of fame.
Rayzor
I wasn't really a fan either Tim... but every girl I dated thru school loved her music so I heard plenty. Made me feel old when my friends kid asked who Whitney was. RIP
Steel2Velvet
Listen to her groundbreaking early music and you can understand how her - then unique - controlled pitch variations influenced an entire generation of vocalists like Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, etc. The artists who followed her style became the templates for today's American Idol-type pop vocalists. Until she got too good ... she was great. I'm shocked at today's news, but not surprised.
Uncle Joe
Fantastic talent from an extremely talented family of singers. Sadly she made so many bad choices in life, ie Bobby Brown. May she RIP.
edna
The artists who followed her style became the templates for today's American Idol-type pop vocalists. So true... What a pity. I did't like her style but hey, she had a voice... Dope sucks. Edited February 12, 2012 by Guest

pinkstones
When someone pisses away talent, that's the worst one of all. Let this be a lesson kiddos, drugs are frickin' stupid. They will screw up your life, and in the end, take it. "For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: "It might have been!" Shawna
My kid came home from work last night and told me "Whitney Houston died." I was shocked. Been so busy working I haven't had time to catch up on news or been in the car at all to hear the radio. Came into the Internet, began looking up articles, every one of which showed a photo, of course. My kids comes in, looks at the screen, and says, "Oh, she was black? With a name like Whitney Houston, I thought she'd been a white girl with long blonde hair." He hadn't a clue. What a voice. What a loss.
phil
I'll always remember Whitney's Star Spangled Banner at The Super Bowl. That was very inspirational, at a time of war. RIP.
Carl
There were about 6 years when having Whitney Houston record your song was the ultimate prize for songwriters. The team who wrote "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" also recorded as Boy Meets Girl and didn't want to give that song up. Then Clive Davis heard it and made it very clear that they would be giving that one up to Whitney.

TheLizard
Actually, it appears that she combined prescription sedatives and alcohol, passed out in her bathtub, and drowned. What a horrible way to die.
Lucky
I hadn't heard, but it doesn't surprise me. It's all very sad, no matter what the circumstances. My thoughts are with her daughter and family.
Jenny
So sad. She had a great voice and was a natural on stage. Here's one of my favorites from her...it wasn't a major hit: All At Once - Whitney Houston In the '90's "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" was a favorite of mine as well. RIP, Whitney..... Kevin1429030929
I had a really hard time with this news -worst minute and a half of my life dealing with it .I'm fine now though , and in fact feel much better , so no need for supportive posts . TBH , I thought she'd died already years ago , but I see now that I had her confused with Payton Manning ... my bad . I don't wanna throw accusations around loosely -you know that's not my style -but I heard a few month's ago that Dolly Parton was having 'money troubles ' . Problem solved now ? I consider her a person of interest , nonetheless ... 'follow the money ' ... Edited February 14, 2012 by Guest
CanAm
She had a great voice, but I'm not big on bellowing. Still, it's always tragic when a young life is cut short. May she rest in peace. "If there's a rock and roll heaven, I'm sure they've got a hell of a band." She'll be in good company.
RonJonSurfer
Many of you know that I live in NJ just outside of NYC. I'm right in the funeral procession path. The church is about 10 miles away in Newark and the cemetery is about 2 miles away in Westfield. Depending on how they decisde to go, the procession can pass as close as 2 blocks from my house, but it would be impossible (or at least nearly impossible) for it to be more than 1 mile away when they turn off to get there. I know this doesn;t contribute much to the conversation, but it's all I got.
Kevin
That'll be quite the documentary you can make , RJ . "I was Kinda near there ... The Whitney Houston Funeral " ... Showtime will likely bite , or the History channel ... it's no Zapruder film , but it will likely sell to someone ... " 3 houses overtop of the one in frame , the late ,great Whitney's hearse is passing ....silence now ... only groundhogs are barking.... for the blood the mere mortals ..arrrrgh ! ...."
