RockyRaccoon Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 So hey, might as well start this now. It's 2012! Music still exists! What music are you looking forward to for the last year of human existence? I hear that there's a new Shins album due out in March
MindCrime Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Alice in Chains are supposed to release a new album this year, I can't wait to hear more details on it.
Farin Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Queens of the Stone Age are probably, maybe releasing a new album this year
TheLizard Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Artists that are supposedly releasing new albums this year (that I find interesting): Ringo Starr, Leonard Cohen, Paul McCartney, Of Montreal, Van Halen, Shearwater, Sleigh Bells, Regina Spektor, Aerosmith, Alice In Chains, Baroness, Garbage, Green Day, The Killers, Kyuss Lives, The Mars Volta, MGMT, Metallica, Muse, The Offspring, Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against The Machine, Rush, Slayer, Soundgarden, Bruce Springsteen, The Strokes, Tool, Wolfmother. Of course, I got all this from wikipedia, so we'll see which ones actually pan out.
Jenny Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Ooh, Garbage, The Killers, Springsteen? I'm excited!
RockyRaccoon Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 Word is Ben Folds Five is getting back together to release an album in spring. THIS NEWS MAKES ME SO HAPPY
RockyRaccoon Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 Anybody listen to the new oldtimers albums? Paul McCartney, Ringo, Van Halen and Leonard Cohen all released albums recently. I've listen to the first three and thought they were all pretty decent except Ringo's, which was pretty bad.
TheLizard Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Listened to the new Van Halen yesterday. I liked it a lot, but it needed some Mike Anthony harmonies to sound like a real, classic Van Halen album.
RockyRaccoon Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 Listened to the new Van Halen yesterday. I liked it a lot, but it needed some Mike Anthony harmonies to sound like a real, classic Van Halen album. Agreed. Though I thought Wolfgang sounded pretty good on the bass.
TheLizard Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Yeah, the kid can play, no question. But I still missed the harmonies.
Levis Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS!!!1111!!!!1!1!
Farin Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS!!!1111!!!!1!1!oh right, I heard about it so... do you like it?
Levis Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 well, actually - it's OK. But it's just an EP and a bit too polished. I prefer their albums still, especially their last one. Exploding Head was PHENOMENAL. The self-titled was great too, but a bit more amateurish. Onwards to the Wall is too professional. But in APTBS land too amateurish > too professional.
Farin Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Yesterday I listened to the first two CDs of Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International obviously with this huge amount of songs some are bound to be better than others, but overall it's really not bad the downside is, that I now have Miley Cyrus in my library, but that's the sacrifices you have to make for the good cause, I guess...

I feel the same way. A lot of it was really good, I especially loved the Johnny Cash/Avett Brothers cover of "One Too Many Mornings". But it is unfortunate that now both Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus are in my music library.
Farin Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Blur are currently recording a new album.
TheLizard Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 If you like your rock and roll loud and over-the-top, listen to the new Foxy Shazam album. Also, in a completely different direction, Air just released a score for George Melies' "Voyage To The Moon" and it's awesome.
Farin Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Air just released a score for George Melies' "Voyage To The Moon" and it's awesome. I listened to that one already, it's quite good Gorillaz released a new single together with André 3000 and James Murphy called DoYaThing for Converse

TheLizard Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I've heard a few tracks. Decent, nothing mind-blowing.
TheLizard Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Oh, and I can't believe I forgot! The new Sleigh Bells album is a must-listen. I love that band.
RockyRaccoon Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 Oh, and I can't believe I forgot! The new Sleigh Bells album is a must-listen. I love that band. Absolutely! Better than their first album I thought
