1. He was rejected from joining the US Air Force because he had too many speeding tickets.

2. He was a camera operator in the Rolling Stones 1967 concert film Gimme Shelter.

3. Owes a large part of his wealth to the licensing deals he made before the first Star Wars film was released — he waived his up-front director’s fee in exchange for full licensing rights to tee shirts, toys, and other Star Wars branded items.

4. He has three adopted children.

5. Met Steven Spielberg when he was studying film at USC.

6. Was born in the small central valley town of Modesto, CA.

7. His Skywalker Ranch facility in Marin County is located off of Lucas Valley Road, a fact that is purely coincidental.

8. Came up with the story idea behind Indiana Jones while on vacation in Hawaii with Steven Spielberg.

9. Originally wanted to be a race car driver, but an accident just before his high school graduation changed his mind.

10. Modeled the character of Chewbacca after his own dog, an Alaskan Malamute. The same dog, named Indiana, was also the namesake for the Indiana Jones series.

George Lucas wanted Obi Wan Kenobi to be Asian in honor of one of his favorite directors, Akira Kurosawa, but the studios didn't think that an Asian was marketable enough.

George Lucas was originally supposed to direct Apocalypse Now.

Lucas has stated that Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the only installment in the prequel trilogy that he was satisfied with.

George originally wanted to do a Flash Gordon movie. Since he couldn't get the rights, he created Star Wars.

George Lucas based Han Solo on his friend . . . Francis Ford Coppola

The Directors Guild of America fined Lucas for refusing to have a standard title sequence in his "Star Wars" films; he quit the guild after paying the fine.
