RockyRaccoon
Dust to dust. Back to black. RIP. She probably should've gotten the "don't do anymore drugs" hint when she was banned from the U.S.
RockyRaccoon
And of course, she was 27.

Steel2Velvet
And of course, she was 27. The 27 "club" Hers is just as hard to fathom as the excessively self-destructive lifestyles of those other uber-talented musicians in the club. Does no one influence or try to guide these people? Guess not. Obviously not with any success. It's too bad.

TheLizard
I've spent the last few years hoping she would clean up enough to get us a new album and she never even came close. Guess this was inevitable.

Ombre Vivante
It's not surprising and, yet, kind of surprising. R.i.p.
Carl
I realize it's not easy to keep tabs on an addict, but you would think someone - family, record label flak, manager - would have kept an eye on her. This is so sad, as she was clearly at risk. Despite (or maybe because of) her troubles, she was one of the great voices and outstanding songwriters of the '00s. A huge loss to the world of music. Levis
The best obituary there is: http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5570&Itemid=
pinkstones
You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Doesn't mean she deserved to die, not by any stretch, but when you live your life a certain way people need to accept the reality that you may die that way. Simple as that. She had a great voice, before she completely destroyed it. There's nothing worse than talent getting pissed away for no good reason.
MindCrime
She wasn't nearly as good or memorable as the real 27 club, but she had talent and persona. R.I.P.
Carl
Just an observation: American radio stations mostly played "Rehab" when the story broke. British ones played "Back To Black."

Carl
Came across some quotes from Natalie Cole after Amy's big year at the Grammys. Natalie is lucky to be alive after years of drug abuse in the late '70s and early '80s - she once stayed in her hotel room when the building was on fire because she wanted to smoke more crack. After Winehouse won, Cole said, "I don't agree with the Grammys giving [Amy] those nods. I think it sends the wrong message. Her behavior was being glorified. They took advantage of a young girl who's very ill." At the time, she was dismissed as a hater, but she was so clearly right.
edna
I understand the Grammys are exclusively a prize to those who gave big amounts of money to the record industry... Drug abuse is very common in the music scene; being such an amazing performer has little thing to do with Grammys.
Shawna
one of the surprising and truly sad parts of this is that there were no street drugs involved. From what I've heard/read, it was an overdose of the anti-anxiety drugs she was taking to help her stay sober.

chutzpah
the saddest part is that nobody will ever know.Drugs will eventually win. It's a no brainer And once your gone people can and will say things that might not really be true.I never really listened to her music. But,a few of the songs that I've heard shows that she had a voice that will be missed.
