what about Hotel California

"Although it is well known that Hotel California is actually a metaphor, there are several strange internet theories and urban legends about the "real" Hotel California. Some include suggestions that it was an old church taken over by devil worshippers, a psychiatric hospital, an inn run by cannibals or Aleister Crowley's mansion in Scotland. (thanks, Adam - Dewsbury, England)"

I've hesitated and procrastinated long enough...

from the streets of Los Angeles

Pico and Sepulveda - Freddy Martin & His Orchestra (1947) aka Felix Figueroa & His Orchestra

from wiki...

"Pico and Sepulveda" is a 1947 song by Freddy Martin and his orchestra. Composed by Eddie Maxwell and Jule Styne (Ambassador Records, 1947—b/w "She of the Coffee Brown Eyes"), it utilizes a Latin-style beat, and Martin used the alias "Felix Figueroa" when performing and recording the song. It was frequently featured on the Dr. Demento radio show in the 1970s.

Rivers of Babylon

- The Melodians (1970)

The namesake rivers of Babylon are the Euphrates river, its tributaries, and the Chebar river.

By the rivers of Babylon

Where we sat down

There we wept

When we remembered Zion

For the wicked

Carried us away captivity

Requiring from us a song

How can we sing a song of joy in a

strange land (repeat)

So let the

Words of our mouths

and the meditations of our hearts

be acceptable in Thy sight

here tonight (repeat)

By the rivers of Babylon

Where we sat down

There we wept

When we remembered Zion (repeat..etc.)

I don't know if you are interested in hypothetical places, but Donovan can direct you to this neighborhood.

[smaller]The continent of Atlantis was an island

which lay before the great flood

in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.

So great an area of land, that from her western shores

those beautiful sailors journeyed

to the South and the North Americas with ease,

in their ships with painted sails.

To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea miles.

The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian culture.

The antediluvian kings colonised the world

All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas

In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.

Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.

On board were the Twelve:

The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist,

The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.

Though Gods they were -

And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind

Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new.[/smaller]

Hail Atlantis !

Beechwood Park is the title of a song from The Zombies 1967 album, Odessey and Oracle, that refers to a place in Flamstead, Hertfordshire as the group's bassist grew up nearby.

"Beechwood Park, once the site of a Benedictine nunnery and now home to a preparatory school, lies in the parish, though it is closer to the neighbouring village of Markyate. Beechwood Park gave its name to a song by The Zombies, written by the group's bassist Chris White, who grew up in Markyate." ~ Wiki

Do you remember summer days

Just after summer rain

When all the air was damp and warm

In the green of country lanes?

And the breeze would touch your hair

Kiss your face and make you care

About your world

Your summer world

And we would count the evening stars

As the day grew dark

In Beechwood Park...

Do you remember golden days and golden summer sun

The sound of laughter in our ears

In the breeze as we would run?

And the breeze would touch your hair

Kiss your face and make you care

About your world

Your summer world

And we would count the evening stars

As the day grew dark

In Beechwood Park...

Oh roads in my mind

Take me back in my mind

And I can't forget you

Won't forget you

Won't forget those days

And Beechwood Park...

And the breeze would touch your hair

Kiss your face and make you care

About your world

Your summer world

And we would count the evening stars

As the day grew dark

In Beechwood Park...

Oh roads in my mind

Take me back in my mind

And I can't forget you

Won't forget you

Won't forget those days

And Beechwood Park...

Birkshire Poppies by Traffic

Berkshire is a historic county in the South East of England. It is also often referred to as the Royal County of Berkshire because of the presence of the royal residence of Windsor Castle in the county.

In the Wiki article they list some famous people from Birkshire including Jethro Tull (1674–1741) :)

Birkshire Poppies

So many people with nothing to do

Hundreds of buildings that block out my view

Watched by a tramp with a hole in his shoe

Standing alone on the corner

He's thinking that work is all a big joke

While he looks in the gutter for something to smoke

Two hundred kids in one red minimoke

Scream down the street fully loaded

Day in the city

Oh what a pity

I could be in Berkshire where the poppies are so pretty

I could be in Berkshire where the poppies are so pretty

I wish that I was there

I wanna make it out of there

People like sardines packed in a can

Waiting for Christmas that's made in Japan

And I'm having trouble with my apple flan

Sat in the cafe on the corner

I walk through the green gates and into the park

Where murderers crawl after girls in the dark

Down by the shed I head a remark

I turned on but no one could hear me

I don't know if you are interested in hypothetical places, but Donovan can direct you to this neighborhood. "Atlantis"

Absolutely - it's a "place," right? Whether real or made up. Of course, it might prove to present me a challenge when it comes time for me to find a photo. This was one of my sister's favorite songs when we were growing up.

Thanks, Dappled, for your suggestions! Our list is growing... and shrinking at the same time as we get these written. :) :)

Great work, Shawna and the rest of the gang!

Stockton-on-Tees is a market town in North East England.

Here's an article about the Globe Theatre in Stockton and below is a bit about The Shadows' song Stars Fell On Stockton

"Also in December that year (1959) Cliff Richard and The Shadows appeared in the pantomime Babes in The Wood and Jet Harris of the Shadows crashed the car they were traveling in. Jet had broken his shoulder and Hank had injured his eye meaning he played on stage with patch over his left eye and tape over his glasses lens. They went to America after the panto but had to return to Stockton Magistrates court months later, where Jet was fined £35 for driving without 'L' plates. The Shadows hit 'Stars Fell on Stockton' the 'B' side of their number one hit 'Wonderful Land' was written to commemorate the event."

Idaho by The Four Seasons

Idaho

Where I long to go

Thrilling checker games

Spelling bees, cherry trees

Idaho, lovely Idaho

Daisies on the grass

Grandma's stew

The cows and you

Idaho, lovely Idaho

Playing pick-up sticks

Santa Claus, apple sauce

Idaho

Rain or sleet or snow

You'll be in my heart

I love you so, just

Thought you'd like to know

My Ida

Sweet as apple cider

How I love you so

My Idaho
