pinkstones Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Stairway To Heaven at #1. What a frickin' shock. Damn, I hate that song.
MindCrime Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Is this from your local radio station RJ? That would explain the extreme Springsteen bias. I find it hard to believe that he would have 2 songs ranked higher than all by the Stones.
RonJonSurfer Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 Is this from your local radio station RJ? That would explain the extreme Springsteen bias. I find it hard to believe that he would have 2 songs ranked higher than all by the Stones. Yes, this is from the largest Classic Rock formatted station in New York City (and I believe in the US). I totally agree with you about Springsteen. I'm a Jersey guy, but not a big Bruce fan. The Stones have many songs that rank higher than any Bruce song in my book.
TheLizard Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I'm fine with the Bruce love. The Stones are amazing, of course, but I can't think of any Stones song I like better than Born To Run or Thunder Road.
edna Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 223 Beatles - Across The Universe 220 Pink Floyd - Us And Them 204 R.E.M. - Losing My Religion 202 George Harrison - My Sweet Lord 201 Kinks - You Really Got Me 186 Beatles - She Loves You 180 Bob Seger - Night Moves 170 Beatles - The Long And Winding Road 168 Beatles - Help! 159 Simon And Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson 158 Deep Purple - Highway Star 157 Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street 156 Elton John - Your Song 139 Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit 113 Billy Joel - New York State Of Mind 112 Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing 85 Pink Floyd - Time 75 Bob Seger - Turn The Page 72 Rolling Stones - Wild Horses 60 Beatles - Something 56 Led Zeppelin - Rock And Roll 42 Pink Floyd - Brain Damage/Eclipse 40 Rolling Stones - You Cant Always Get What You Want 35 Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin 34 Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower 33 Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze 28 Doors - Light My Fire 24 Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil 22 Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone 20 Don McLean - American Pie 17 Beatles - In My Life 16 Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter 9 Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road ..."In My Life" or "Wild Horses" after "Stairway" Not to mention Patti Smithlessness...
RonJonSurfer Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 When the radio station was advertising for people to participate in the voting for this year, they said "We're doing this to find out who is Number 2, because we know what always comes in number 1." Stairway To Heaven wouldn't break into my personal top 100...maybe even my top 500.
TheLizard Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Not to mention Patti Smithlessness... Because The Night is on the list somewhere, but that's the only one. And it was written by Bruce.
RonJonSurfer Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 Ask The Angels by Patti Smith (and Ivan Kral) would be very high on my list...crank it and enjoy:
edna Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Because The Night is on the list somewhere, but that's the only one. And it was written by Bruce. that's what I mean... there are so many amazing songs...
Brad_M Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Because The Night is on the list somewhere, but that's the only one. And it was written by Bruce. "Because The Night" by Patti Smith Group did not make the list. I just went through the list and it's not there, but I think it would have made the list if it went to #251.
RonJonSurfer Posted December 3, 2010 Author Report Posted December 3, 2010 I had to check myself because that song gets lot's of airplay on Q 104. It did make the list at number 621.
MuzikTyme Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 I'm shocked that Crazy Li'l thing called LOVE didn't at the very least come in at 252! Stairway to Heaven came in at #1. Yep, the number one song played over and over! The only song in history where a once great song is the indicator of a beginner guitarist. My music store has a sign that reads, "Feel free to try our guitars, just NO Stairway to Heaven!" There's great achievement to that, unfortunately.
TheLizard Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 The whole list of 1043, not the top 250.
MindCrime Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I'm assuming the radio station's channel is 104.3
MuzikTyme Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 or 25.0 That's slang for the updated or 2nd version of the original Five OH! Don'tcha just love the Ventures? Don't you wish everybody did? (reminds me slightly of the classic 70s commercial ) Ventures: they never ran...they surfed!
Brad_M Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 The whole list of 1043, not the top 250. Oh. Ok, that's good to know. I didn't know the list was a total of 1043 songs. Ron's original post didn't mention that. What would be the web site that I can view all 1043 songs?
MindCrime Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I didn't even notice the other threads until you brought that up
RonJonSurfer Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 I'm assuming the radio station's channel is 104.3 Yep. You can get it streamed from their website. They also have lots of great interviews, photos, concert footage, etc. They also give online access to HD Radio stations throughout the country. http://www.q1043.com/main.html
Brad_M Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 He posted all of them in sections. Duh...I clicked on last topic posted from the index and didn't look at the sub-index. My bad!
Viaene Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 De gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum. I say that's a list of great music, in the wrong order That's the reason why I listen to similar lists on my local radio stations: great music!
MuzikTyme Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I say that's a list of great music, in the wrong order I say it's a list without ANY order. But I agree, Sébastien.
CanAm Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 They rank Jessica as the greatest song by the Allman Brothers? What about Statesboro Blues, Rambling Man, Midnight Rider or Whipping Post? I believe all of those songs are superior to Jessica. As for Stairway To Heaven, it's still my favourite Zep song, although it certainly doesn't merit a position as the greatest rock song of all time.
RockyRaccoon Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 I guess I'm alone in this, but if someone were to ask me what the greatest rock song of all time is, I would without question say Stairway. I mean, I truly think that Stairway is a masterpiece of a song. Yea, sure, it's over talked about, and constantly built up, and overplayed in it's own way, but I think it's an incredible song.
