Carl
We spoke with Procol Harum's lyricist Keith Reid about a year ago, so when I had the chance to speak with their lead singer/pianist/composer Gary Brooker, I had him explain what it's like writing music to a sheet of lyrics, and if he would tweak the words. Some real interesting stuff came when Gary talked about inspiration, and we got a good sense of why it was easier to create "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967 than it would be today. Gary was incredibly polite and really thought through his answers, especially when I asked him which Procol song is the most difficult to perform. I didn't have time to get into his work with Eric Clapton or find out what it was like playing on George Harrison's first solo album under the direction of Phil Spector, but Gary's insights have made my Procol Harum listening experience even better, and I really enjoyed our talk. edna
Thank you, Carl It makes me want to see among my old LPs and put some Procol Harum on the record plater... I like his view on the fact that there is no more time on the road... and how things have changed...
