JumboXL
On his latest album Bingo, Steve Miller recorded a version of the song Ooh Poo Pa Doo. The song is also known from Wilson Picket, Tina Turner and Slade. As a non-native speaker of the English language, I can only guess what the lyrics are about. I wouldn´t want to explain the details of my guess at this place. Can a SongFactor explain the meaning of the lyrics to me? Let me tell ya'bout Ooh Poo Pa Doo Yeah they call me the most Yeah, Ooh Poo Pa Doo Yeah they call me the most And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind Chorus Oh-oh, Ooh Poo Pa Doo (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah they call me the most (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah, Ooh Poo Pa Doo (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah they call me the most (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind Oh-ho, girl don't create disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind (create disturbance in your mind) Your mind, your mind your mind, your mind, your mind (create disturbance in your mind) And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind Oh-oh-oh-oh ... Break Woh-hoh (woh-hoh) Woh-hoh (woh-hoh) Oh yeah (oh yeah) Oh (oh), oh (oh), oh (oh), oh (oh), yeah Monkey away for me baby, I'm a rag sugar monkey now Yeah, monkey away for me baby, any old time around And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind Oh-ho, girl don't create disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind (create disturbance in your mind) Your mind, your mind your mind, your mind, your mind (create disturbance in your mind) And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind Chorus Oh-oh, Ooh Poo Pa Doo (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah they call me the most (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah, Ooh Poo Pa Doo (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) Yeah they call me the most (Ooh Poo, Ooh Poo Pa Doo) And I won't stop talking try and create a disturbance in your mind
Lucky
Jumbo, I am most familiar with this song as it was performed by Taj Mahal ..... and the lyrics that I know it by are as follows (slightly different than yours) : I wanna tell you about ooh poo pah doo They call me the most Ooh poo pah doo They call me the most, yeah I won't stop tryin' till I create a disturbance in your mind Now ooh poo pah doo? They call me the most? Oh, yeah now? They call me the most I won't stop tryin' till I create a disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind Create disturbance in your mind I won't stop tryin' till I create a disturbance in your mind Lord have mercy Soul is happy children Ooh pah doo They call me the most Oh, mama, mama, mama, mama Don't you know they call me the most, hey I won't stop tryin' till I create a disturbance in your mind Look in here baby, here's what I'm gonna do Ring a few bells in your ear Ring a few bells in your ear Ring a few bells in your ear Ring a few bells in your ear I won't stop tryin' till I create a disturbance in your mind ********************************************** I think it's pretty obvious .... "I won't stop trying till I create a disturbance in your mind" = Until you can't stop thinking about me, As well as "a disturbance in your mind" being a nice way of saying "Until you're so hot for me you can think of nothing else" Ring a few bells in your ear = does that ring a bell? Do you remember? I really doubt there is a translation for Ooh Poo Pah Doo .... it's sort of like Rama Lama Ding Dong, etc. Regardless, The Taj version is the one I enjoy the most .... look it up. bazooka
Can a SongFactor explain the meaning of the lyrics to me? Much like Sam the Sham & the Pharoah's Wooly Bully, this song depicts the use of saxophone as social conscience and political weapon, an in-depth analyses of the coexistence of good and evil; based on the works of Jane Austen. All of this is much more obvious, in The Original (Parts 1 + 2) by Jessie Hill

Shawna
"The most" is a phrase used back in the '50s when my mom was a girl. "Oh, Cindy, look at that Johnny - isn't he the most?" Like isn't he HOT??
edna
It was also used in Spain in the eighties... "Lo más" ... though it also meant "Top" when you talked about music or a book or a dish or whatever...
JumboXL
I understand it is a mucho macho bragging lyric, about impressing lady girlies. So Tina Turner's version would be the most sharp one of all....
