I've been putting this off long enough.

1] Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder (1976)

2] What's Going On - Marvin Gaye (1971)

3] Night at the Opera, A - Queen (1975)

4] Tapestry - Carole King (1971)

5] Stranger, The - Billy Joel (1977)

6] London Calling - The Clash (1979)

7] Ramones - Ramones (1976)

8] Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones (1971)

9] Dark Side of the Moon, The - Pink Floyd (1973)

10] Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John (1973)

Having to choose ten out of that list was abso-friggin'-lutely ridonkulous. Frankly, I'm a little pissed off and it's giving me agita, for chrissakes. I need some Brioschi.

Very nice

I'm sure there's going to be some criticism in the main page comments regarding London Calling, since it was released in late December 1979, and considered by some to be an 80's album. Still glad to see it make it, it's a definite punk classic.

I'm also expecting some backlash about this being all rock albums and no R&B making the cut.

Well, the results are what they are, no matter what we might wish. Honestly, I think our list is pretty darned representative of what was popular then. As someone who lived through the 70's, R&B just wasn't the dominate factor. Sure Stevie & Marvin, a few others were great, but for the most part, the 70's were about Rock & Roll. Taken in that context, I think we did pertty good ....

And the final breakdown .... as you can see, the voting was tight, and there are lots of ties. Thank goodness in the final 10 there was just the one, for the #10 spot. ;)

It's all my fault  I almost gave CCR my #1, which would've won the tie-breaker.

This is still a very solid top 10 list that captures the originality and influence of 70's era rock.
