here goes:

1. More of the Monkees

2. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.

Both from '67.

More later. Gotta go get my hair do'd.

Here's my more.

From Allmusic.com

Biography by Richie Unterberger

Formed primarily for the purpose of starring in a television series, the Monkees were on one hand a cynically manufactured group, devised to cash in on the early Beatles' success by applying the most superficial aspects of the British Invasion formula to capture a preteen audience. On the other hand, they weren't devoid of musical talent, and at their best managed to craft some enduring pop/rock hits. "I'm a Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville," "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "Stepping Stone," "Take a Giant Step," "Valleri," "Words" — all were pleasantly jangling, harmony rock numbers with hooks big enough for a meat locker, and all were huge hits in 1966-1968. Scorned at their peak by hipsters for not playing on many of their own records, the group gained some belated critical respect for their catchy, good-time brand of pop.

Both albums that I nominated made it to #1 on Billboard in 1967.

1) More of the Monkees

Side 1

1."She" (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart)

2."When Love Comes Knockin' (At Your Door)" (Carole Bayer Sager/Neil Sedaka)

3."Mary, Mary" (Michael Nesmith)

4."Hold On Girl" (Billy Carr/Jack Keller/Ben Raleigh)

5."Your Auntie Grizelda" (Diane Hildebrand, Jack Keller)

6."(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart)

Side 2

1."Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)" (Neil Diamond)

2."The Kind of Girl I Could Love" (Roger Atkins/Michael Nesmith)

3."The Day We Fall In Love" (Sandy Linzer/Denny Randell)

4."Sometime In The Morning" (Gerry Goffin/Carole King)

5."Laugh" (Phil Margo/Mitch Margo/Hank Medress/Jay Siegel)

6."I'm a Believer" (Neil Diamond)

"I'm a Believer" hit #1, and "Steppin' Stone" hit the Top 20.

2) Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.

Side 1

1."Salesman" (Craig Smith)

2."She Hangs Out" (Jeff Barry)

3."The Door Into Summer" (Chip Douglas, Bill Martin)

4."Love is Only Sleeping" (Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil)

5."Cuddly Toy" (Harry Nilsson)

6."Words" (Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart)

[edit] Side 2

1."Hard to Believe" (David Jones, Kim Capli, Eddie Brick, Charlie Rockett)

2."What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?" (Michael Martin Murphey, Owen Castleman)

3."Peter Percival Patterson's Pet Pig Porky" (Peter Tork)

4."Pleasant Valley Sunday" (Gerry Goffin, Carole King)

5."Daily Nightly" (Michael Nesmith)

6."Don't Call on Me" (Michael Nesmith, John London)

7."Star Collector" (Gerry Goffin, Carole King)

Of these, "Words" hit #11 and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" made it to #3.

PACJ Ltd. was more a critical success than commercial, it's when the guys themselves began contributing some of their own songs and trying to wrestle the reins from the gloved corporate hands that had been manipulating them all along.

Both of these albums played a huge part in my childhood, and I can't help but revisit whenever I hear any of the songs from the Monkees. It's like Paul Simon's "Kodachrome" says, "Makes you think all the world's a sunny day." Well, Monkees music does exactly that for me.
