Golden Oldies Top 40 #49

Recommended Posts

All members of Songfacts are most welcome to vote and help create next week's Top 40. Don't be shy. It may look a little complicated, but it's not really. You don't have to be an 'oldie' - just someone who appreciates this kind of music.

.................................................

Eligibility of songs:

* U.S. Charted Pop AND R&B Singles of the 1950s+ era, but not after 1963.

* No Album Only Tracks or Uncharted B Sides.

* U.S. Chart Links may be found for on Songfacts' Main Index page, where there are alphabetical links to many songs, either by Title or Artist. If your songs aren't there, you could use Google/Wikipedia - or PT Cyberjudge if in doubt.

..................................................

IT'S EASY Allot your points in 3 sections:

PART A: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #40 (below) you'd like to advance:

(Plus) +5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

PART B: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #40 (below) you don't really care for, or you think could make way for other New songs.:

(Minus) -5, -4, -3, -2, -1.

PART C: 5 New Songs you'd like to see in the next Top 40:

(Plus) *5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

Please note that these may be duplicated on a number of Lists - you can go along with others to support songs you like. It's best to do that if you vote later.

VOTING IS NOW OPEN !

Being that I'm the "new guy" here, I was just wondering on the rules in voting. What songs are eligible? Post 1950 or post Elvis (1956)? I enjoy everything from Les Paul & Mary Ford, Four Aces and Eddie Fisher of the early 50's to Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and Brook Benton of the late 50's. I was just wondering where the starting point was. I collect music and charts so I know what was popular and when. If in doubt go to Google Books and type in either an artist/song or even something like "1953 Billboard" (or any other year/month combination with the word Billboard) and you can skim through back issues of Billboard Magazine. Thanks

Great to see Quarter To Three getting so much support. It's one of my favorite songs. :)

I've gotten it in here before, but if it's up for reconsideration, then I might vote again to support it this week.

It was even considered as a candidate for my PT10, but quickly dropped out in the elimination stage.

Well, folks, it’s time for another Golden Oldies Top 40. I’m DJ Ceejay and I’ll be your host as we count down this week’s oldies’ favorites on songfacts.com.

Last week, Conway Twitty topped our chart with It’s Only Make Believe. Will it stay another week at #1? Believe it … or not? We’ll see in just a bit.

4 songs drop out this week:

Greenfields by the Brothers Four

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry

Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt, and

White Christmas by Bing Crosby

That opens the door for 4 new songs. Leading off at #40 is the 1st hit on our chart for Millie Small, My Boy Lollipop. And coming in at #36 is Bruce Channel’s 1st entry, Hey Baby.

TW 31 LW 20 (18) ALL THE WAY FRANK SINATRA

TW 32 LW 34 (16) LONG TALL SALLY LITTLE RICHARD

TW 33 LW 23 (17) PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON PETER, PAUL&MARY

TW 34 LW 27 (17) MY SPECIAL ANGEL BOBBY HELMS

TW 35 LW 29 (16) DEEP PURPLE NINO TEMPO & APRIL STEVENS

TW 36 NEW HEY BABY BRUCE CHANNEL

TW 38 LW 36 (6) THE CHIPMUNK SONG THE CHIPMUNKS

TW 39 LW 40 (5) I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS JIMMY BOYD

TW 40 NEW MY BOY LOLLIPOP MILLIE SMALL

Len Barry and the Dovells stomp their way into the countdown at #30 with the Bristol Stomp. And the highest debut this week is no stranger to our countdown. Re-entering the chart this week at #26 is Quarter to Three by Gary “U.S.†Bonds, which peaked at #18 its 1st try.

TW 21 LW 22 (7) ROCKIN’ AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE BRENDA LEE

TW 22 LW 19 (15) SINGING THE BLUES GUY MITCHELL

TW 23 LW 24 (7) JINGLE BELL ROCK BOBBY HELMS

TW 24 LW 26 (16) TOO YOUNG NAT 'KING' COLE

TW 28 LW 31 (13) DUKE OF EARL GENE CHANDLER

TW 29 LW 32 (11) MACK THE KNIFE BOBBY DARIN

TW 30 NEW BRISTOL STOMP DOVELLS

Nat King Cole climbs 11 notches from #30 top #19 with Unforgettable. But the biggest mover this week chugs up 21 spots from #39 to #18, The Loco-Motion by Little Eva.

TW 11 LW 10 (11) YOU CAN’T CATCH ME CHUCK BERRY

TW 12 LW 14 (14) ONE FINE DAY CHIFFONS

TW 19 LW 30 (3) UNFORGETTABLE NAT KING COLE

TW 20 LW 18 (17) SILHOUETTES RAYS

One new song enters the top 10 this week: up from #12 to #9 are the Chiffons with He’s So Fine.

TW 6 LW 3 (11) FINGERTIPS (PART II) STEVIE WONDER

TW 7 LW 7 (12) TOWN WITHOUT PITY GENE PITNEY

TW 8 LW 6 (14) JUDY'S TURN TO CRY LESLEY GORE

TW 9 LW 12 (12) HE’S SO FINE CHIFFONS

TW 10 LW 5 (15) POOR LITTLE FOOL RICKY NELSON

2 new songs make it to the top 5: Sam Cooke keeps twisting his way up the chart from #9 to #5 with Twistin the Night Away. And the Drifters drift up 5 spots from #8 to #3 with On Broadway.
