CanAm
I'm a huge fan of slide guitar. I'm hoping that this post will acquaint me with some new slide guitarists. IMO, the following slide guitarists are two of the best in the business. A World Away - Sonny Landreth Mercury Blues - David Lindley This guy is amazing. He is one of the most versatile musicians I've ever seen. He plays almost every stringed instrument imaginable including, steel guitar, banjo, fiddle, bouzouki, cittern, mandolin, upright bass and zither. And he plays them very well. MuzikTyme
The steel guitar shines on Mercury Blues! My first thought regarding slide guitar was Lynryd Skynryd's Free Bird. Joe Walsh plays a mean slide and so does Joe Perry and Bonnie Raitt. There are many great slide guitarists but Billy Gibbons, I think, was born with a slide! c_s_1987
The style of slide guitar playing in prog rock is very different from blues. Nevertheless, I love Steve Howe's slide guitar work.

Just Got Paid ~ ZZTOP Great video of Billy Gibbons. I've long admired his guitar work, Marcus, but I didn't realize he was such an accomplished slide guitarist. :guitar:
CanAm
Elmore James Johnny Winter George Thorogood Amen to Johnny Winter, Bluesboy! And Thorogood is no slouch, either. I don't know how I could have forgotten Duane Allman, Bluesboy. He is definitely one of the best. And while I think about it, Rory Gallagher was awesome as well. MuzikTyme
Bluesy hit it well with "Dust My Broom", CanAm! I don't think anyone knows blues as well as bluesboy! Now, for something not quite as good as what bb said yet still a great song that features slide just in the right place... MuzikTyme
I'll try and keep this thought provoking thread going... Another great slide guitarist is this next guy...in fact he alone developed a new way to play slide...through a 'voice' via electronical over-bypass pod and gizmos that I don't understand...but.. here goes...
