Carl
Think about groups King Crimson, Yes and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. Compared to Gentle Giant, they were mainstream and highly accessible. We spoke with the brothers Ray and Derek Shulman, who formed the band. They called it quits in 1980 and never looked back, but now their music is available digitally, so you can find it on places like Amazon and iTunes. The big story here is the post-Giant careers of Ray and Derek, who worked as a producer and record executive, respectively. Derek brought us Bon Jovi, Slipknot and Nickelback, and Ray produced Bjork and the Sugarcubes. Their insights on these acts and what makes them click is valuable stuff, and goes a long way toward explaining Bon Jovi. MuzikTyme
"Expand the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of becoming very unpopular " The above quote was enough for me to realize how sophisticated Gentle Giant was/is. Thanx for sharing the interview!
c_s_1987
It's as if you are reading my mind. I can hardly think of two interviews I would like to see more than Ian Anderson and the Shulman brothers, and now you have done both. Thank you. This gives me a great excuse to listen to Octopus again.
