Who, in your opinion, are the best rock ballad writers?

And also, what are your favorite rock ballads by them?

Here's my list for now.

Red Hot Chili Peppers(is there any recent band that tops them ballad style, I didn't think so)

by RHCP:

I Could Have Lied

Breaking The Girl

Under The Bridge(that's kind of a ballad)

and Cheap Trick:

Scent Of A Woman

The Flame.

I'm perklempt, talk amongst yourselves, today's topic, rock ballads. :jester:

Yeah, pretty much everything Paul wrote could be considered a ballad.

which reminds me

Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed"

(now off topic, but I didn't want to make a new post, or edit my first one)

Though my vote for favorite ballad is still going to RHCP's

'I Could Have Lied'

It probably uses the word F___ more times than any other rock ballad written, not to mention it's used beautifully and in such a melodic spot.

I love the chorus

'I could have lied I'm such a fool

my eyes could never never keep their cool

told her and I showed her how she struck me but I'm f___ed up now'

Hmmm, April Wine had a cd "Best Of Ballads". I heard a few songs.....Pretty Good.

The Ramones.   :jester: :jester:

Poison had a cd "Best Of Ballads And Blues". If you like that kind of music it's good.

But overall, I have to agree with Gilliann, I love Beatles ballads.

RHCP RULE

Jimmy Buffett would have to have a place on this list, certainly. His box set "Beaches, Bars, Boats and Ballads" contains some of the most descriptive, one-on-one music I have heard...

Hope everyone has a REALLY good weekend.

Be safe in everything you do.

Ken.

The Eagles had some awesome ballads:

Desperado

I Can't Tell You Why

Best of My Love

Tequila Sunrise

James Taylor had some great ones as well:

Shower the People

And, although they've been mentioned, I gotta name some of my favorite Beatles ballads:

Julia

Let It Be

Hey Jude

Something

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Yesterday

and In My Life
