Songfactor's Top 10 Holiday Movies

One Special Night This is an amazing movie. The chemistry between Julie Andrews and James Garner is wonderful. It's one of those unheralded little movie gems.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

This speech by Linus about the meaning of Christmas, never fails to bring a tear to my eyes.

My two favourite Christmsas movies (White Christmas and the Alistair Sim version of A Chrismas Carol) were already nominated. However, I also love these two.

Have you seen the Muppets version? It's definitely the most true to Dickens, while still being the most hilarious. Moral of the story: Muppets make everything better.

I watched it a couple of nights ago, and seriously thought about changing my nomination. I love it, and Muppets definately made my evening better. ;)

I love Planes, Trains & Automobiles, but it isn't a Christmas movie. It's a movie about trying to get home for Thanksgiving.

Though I love the movie a lot, never felt It's A Wonderful Life belongs in the Christmas movie genre - even though there is conveniently a Christmas tree at the end. But George could have tried to commit suicide in summer for that matter and the remainder would have played out the same, whereas the rest of the nominations needed holidays to work.

(I couldn't put Trading Places in my Top Ten because it's not actually a Christmas movie; it just happens to take place at Christmas time, but I truly LOVE this movie!)

I think Elf was pretty much the perfect modern Christmas movie. Will Ferrell's best work, with a cast of very funny people being very funny. Bob Newhart, Amy Sedaris, the guy from Tenacious D, the little person who shows up all over the place, James Caan, Ed Asner, Andy Richter and Howard Stern cast member Artie Lange all show up and are somehow perfect in their roles. If they were to make a sequel, it would be the Christmas equivalent of Oceans 12, but I think they have the sense to leave it alone.

The Zooey/Redbone version of Baby, It's Cold Outside has become the one we hear on most Christmas playlists, which shows the heart and soul that went into the film, along with the excellent decision not only to cast Zooey Deschanel as the girl, but to let her sing.
