cyberjudge
Hello again and welcome to another edition of Golden Oldies top 40. I’m DJ Ceejay and I’ll be your host for this week’s countdown. Last week, the top 3 songs were: #3 Poor Little Fool by Ricky Nelson #2 The Wanderer by Dion #1 Blue on Blue by Bobby Vinton Before we get started with this week’s countdown, let’s look at the 3 songs that drop out this week: Green Onions, by Booker T & the MG’s, the only instrumental thus far to hit #1. Come Softly to Me by the Fleetwoods, which landed softly at #35. Twist and Shout by the Isley Brothers, which twisted its way to #18. Now for the new entries: For only the second time since the first week of the countdown, one artist debuts with more than one song in the same week. 8 weeks ago, Peter Paul & Mary had 3 new entries in the GO-40 in the same week: If I Had a Hammer, Blowin’ in the Wind and Puff the Magic Dragon (the last 2 of those are still in our top 10 this week). This week, the Everly Brothers put 2 new songs into the countdown; Ebony Eyes at #39 and When Will I Be Loved at #32. The other debut this week is by country music superstar Conway Twitty, at #34, It’s Only Make Believe. This week is a bittersweet one as Darryl aka OLD 55, who created the Golden Oldies Top 40 thread, has announced that this will be his last week participating in this thread. D, we will all miss your contributions and humorous posts, but we are all very grateful to you for starting up this thread and for exposing your fellow Songfactors to the wealth of great music of the pre-Brit invasion era. In honor of your native Australia, instead of my ususal sign off, I’ll end this week with a musical tribute with a golden oldie from Down Under.
