WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN OLDIES TOP 40 #40. :)

All members of Songfacts are most welcome to vote and help create next week's Top 40. Don't be shy. It may look a little complicated, but it's not really. You don't have to be an 'oldie' - just someone who appreciates this kind of music.

.................................................

Eligibility of songs:

* U.S. Charted Pop AND R&B Singles of the 1950s+ era, but not after 1963.

* No Album Only Tracks or Uncharted B Sides.

* U.S. Chart Links may be found for on Songfacts' Main Index page, where there are alphabetical links to many songs, either by Title or Artist. If your songs aren't there, you could use Google/Wikipedia - or PT OLD55 if in doubt.

..................................................

IT'S EASY !!! Allot your points in 3 sections:

PART A: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #39 (below) you'd like to advance:

(Plus) +5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

PART B: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #39 (below) you don't really care for, or you think could make way for other New songs.:

(Minus) -5, -4, -3, -2, -1.

PART C: 5 New Songs you'd like to see in the next Top 40:

(Plus) *5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

Please note that these may be duplicated on a number of Lists - you can go along with others to support songs you like. It's best to do that if you vote later.

I won't be participating in this special during Darryl's absence. Not that it matters..

Kenne, I'm hanging around this week to give CeeJay some support.

Of course it matters if you don't vote ! You helped kick this off, and it would be great if you were part of the Team that selects the weekly Top 40.

Thanks to all our faithful regulars who have voted this week. :)

Another week has come and gone and that means once again it’s time to count down this week’s hottest oldies on Golden Oldies Top 40. I’m your host DJ Ceejay, and let’s get right to it. Last week’s top 3 were:

1. BLUE ON BLUE BOBBY VINTON

2. THE WANDERER DION

3. SILHOUETTES RAYS

Will this week be blue again? We’ll find out soon.

3 songs drop out of our countdown this week:

Surfer Girl by the Beach Boys washes ashore this week after hanging ten at #5.

It’s too late for It’s Late by Ricky Nelson, which clocks out after striking #23.

And Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison gets the “Royal†flush this week, after batting its way to #6.

Now for the 3 songs entering the countdown this week:

Leading off at #40 is a re-entry of a song that hit #28 the 1st time around, He’s So Fine by the Chiffons.

At #37 is the debut entry for soul singer Dionne Warwick, a song written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Anyone Who Had a Heart.

And at #32, our highest debut this week is Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

Here is the full bottom 10, from #31 to #40:

TW31 LW31 TOO YOUNG NAT 'KING' COLE

TW32 NEW TAKE FIVE DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET

TW33 LW33 HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY TUNE WEAVERS

TW34 LW19 GREEN ONIONS (I) BOOKER T. & MG'S

TW35 LW35 COME SOFTLY TO ME FLEETWOODS

TW36 LW36 I’M SORRY BRENDA LEE

TW37 NEW ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART DIONNE WARWICK

TW38 LW37 TWIST AND SHOUT ISLEY BROTHERS

TW39 LW30 MONSTER MASH BOBBY PICKETT & CRYPT-KICKERS

TW40 R/E HE’S SO FINE CHIFFONS

Now to our big gainers. Chuck Berry gains 12 spots in the countdown, up from last week’s leadoff position at #40 to #28, with his appropriately titled song, You Can’t Catch Me. The rest of the songs from #21 to #30 look like this:

TW21 LW10 CHAIN GANG SAM COOKE

TW22 LW18 HITCH HIKE MARVIN GAYE

TW23 LW21 WALK LIKE A MAN 4 SEASONS

TW24 LW26 GREENFIELDS BROTHERS FOUR

TW25 LW20TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY BOBBY VEE

TW26 LW23 BONY MORONIE LARRY WILLIAMS

TW27 LW25 WHERE THE BOYS ARE CONNIE FRANCIS

TW28 LW40YOU CAN’T CATCH ME CHUCK BERRY

TW29 LW27 DUKE OF EARL GENE CHANDLER

TW30 LW29 RAMBLIN' ROSE NAT 'KING' COLE

That brings us to our biggest mover of the week, as Stevie Wonder works wonders with his Fingertips, tickling the ivories up 17 keys from #34 to #17. The songs from #11 to #20 look like this:

TW11 LW14 JUDY'S TURN TO CRY LESLEY GORE

TW12 LW11 WITCH DOCTOR DAVID SEVILLE

TW13 LW16 MY SPECIAL ANGEL BOBBY HELMS

TW14 LW22 TWO FACES HAVE I LOU CHRISTIE

TW15 LW13 BO DIDDLEY BO DIDDLEY

TW17 LW34 FINGERTIPS (PART II) STEVIE WONDER

TW18 LW15 SPANISH HARLEM BEN E.KING

TW19 LW24 ONE FINE DAY CHIFFONS

TW20 LW28 KEEP SEARCHIN' DEL SHANNON

Now this brings us to the top 10:

Only 1 new entry joins the Top 10 community this week, as Town Without Pity by Gene Pitney shows no pity this week, shooting up from #17 to #8.

The songs from #6 to #10 are:

TW 6 LW 6 PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON PETER, PAUL&MARY

TW 7 LW 8 ALL THE WAY FRANK SINATRA

TW 8 LW17 TOWN WITHOUT PITY GENE PITNEY

TW 9 LW 9 DEEP PURPLE NINO TEMPO & APRIL STEVENS

TW 10 LW 7 CRY BABY GARNET MIMMS & ENCHANTERS

Now for the top 5.

Starting its descent toward the dark side this week, dropping from #3 to #5 is:

TW 5 LW 3 SILHOUETTES RAYS

Blowing upward to #4 is the highest charting song to date for Peter Paul & Mary:

TW 4 LW 5 BLOWIN' IN THE WIND PETER, PAUL & MARY

Earning the riches of his 2nd top 3 hit is Ricky Nelson with:

TW 3 LW 4 POOR LITTLE FOOL RICKY NELSON

Wandering no more, Dion holds steady in the runner-up position for the 2nd week after 2 weeks at #1 with:

TW 2 LW 2 THE WANDERER DION

And the bluebird of happiness must be smiling again, as for the 2nd straight week the #1 song is:

:drummer:

TW 1 LW 1 BLUE ON BLUE BOBBY VINTON

That “raps†it up for another week of Golden Oldies top 40. Until next week, when we count ‘em down all over again, keep your head in the stars :stars: and keep reaching for the ground.
