billy2times
Okay, this is a pet peeve of mine. Due to file sharing, there is an entire generation of people who think, for example, that ELO did Love Is Like Oxygen...not Sweet. I spend a lot of time playing trivia in Second Life and have yet to see a DJ there who knows that Cry Little Sister from the Lost Boy soundtrack is by Gerard McMann, not the Sisters of Mercy. So I have decided to write some trivia questions on mislabeled songs. What are some that you have run across or the funniest ones you have seen? The Seeker
Lots of people think that Black Betty is by Humble Pie.
Farin
"Age of Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In" is often labeled to be by the Mamas and the Papas (PS maybe this thread would fit better in Music Discussion?)
berjo1429030949
The reasons why "Love Is Like Oxygen" doesn't bother me when people find the confusion is because of the structure, sound, and production. It has Jeff Lynne stamped all over it and whether or not 'Sweet' was truly inspired, that I do not know. I've read that people have confused America's "Horse with No Name" with Neil Young. And lets not forget Canadian rockers (or pop rockers) 'Klaatu' who many (and I mean many) claimed a facade for the Beatles.
Farin
maybe we shouldn't forget that there's another kind if mislabeling... one that's even worse (maybe): song titles there's the infamous "Teenage Wasteland" and recently I encountered a song by Blur that I never heard before called "Woo Hoo"
MindCrime
I've seen Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike" labeled as just Soundgarden or Pearl Jam (or even both)
edna
I joined Songfacts five years ago due to a mislabelled song I had on a compilation. I don't even remember what the mistake was or if we solved it but in any case I was very lucky to find this site and ask
skybluesky
When I downloaded Sunny by Bobby Hebb it was labeled as being by Classics IV.
c_s_1987
Search on any music related website (except for Songfacts, of course ) and you will probably find several references to a version of Stairway To Heaven recorded as a collaboration by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. In reality, they are probably referring to this version by Far Corporation (a band featuring three members of Toto and a few other musicians), which was released in 1985. Also, there's the fact that so many people seem to think Cat's In The Cradle was originally recorded by Cat Stevens. MindCrime
Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane is sometimes credited as Tom Petty. Just now I found Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Weathers (actor: Rocky / Predator) instead of Carl Douglas
RockyRaccoon
Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane is sometimes credited as Tom Petty. I once met a girl who claimed her dad wrote that song and that Tom Cochrane heard her dad playing it in a bar and stole it. I'm sure there's a million of those kinds of stories out there
Heimann47
After a little bit of scanning, I found out that, apparently, Tool wrote a song called "I Know The Pieces Fit". It's strangely similar to the lyrics from "Schism". But it MUST be a different song, because the internet said so! ....right?
